Five Things: JOY

I saw that out there in the blog-o-sphere there’s a #BlogtemberChallenge going on. I haven’t participated yet but I figured I’d give it a go today  🙂 The prompt is Five Things That Bring You Joy.

| 1 | My Little Family
This one probably goes without saying… Just tossing a toy with Lylee or snuggling with Enzo or watching K go about his day puts a stupid smile on my face. Those three really do make me the happiest in the world.

| 2 | Fall
I know everyone’s lusting over fall right now, but I am so in love with this season. I love pumpkins and Halloween and crispy leaves. My favorite end-of-summer outfit is a pair of TOMS with some jean shorts and a warm sweatshirt. I love pulling boots over my skinny jeans and draping a scarf around my neck and feeling the warm sun on my face while walking the dogs on a cool 50 degree day. Serious perfection. I grin from ear to ear.

| 3 | A Good Book
I’m talking about a book that introduces me to a bunch of new friends and throws me into an adventure with them where we laugh and cry and eventually succeed. You know- the book that’s got good font and the perfect number of pages and an appealing cover. (i.e. Harry Potter)

| 4 | Road Trips
Vacations/trips make me happy, but the getting-there part is always one of my favorite things. Long drives don’t bother me. In fact, I love hanging out in the passenger seat and reading a good book or hunting for license plates or chatting with the driver. Trips with K and/or my parents are my favorite. A good satellite radio connection and halfway coffee stop are a must.

| 5 | Games
I don’t really play video games, but I’m a big fan of board games and group games (like Cards Against Humanity or Apples to Apples). I also like crosswords and fill-in puzzles and wordsearches, etc. There’s also a Gameboy series (Professor Layton) that I like to play sometimes. It’s a bunch of puzzles and mind-games. K tells me that playing mind-games on him brings me joy, too. *eyeroll*

I thought it’d be harder to come up with five things, but that was easy. What are some things that bring you joy?

Like I said, this post is a part of the #blogtemberChallenge with Love Bailey Jean.

Amen to all of this! Your family is so so so cute. 😀 You should go read The Husband’s Secret by Liane Moriarty (unless you already have, because I know I’m late to the party on her books). I’m 5 pages from the end and IT IS SO GOOD. I LOOOVE group games like Cards Against Humanity!

Thanks, girl. I think they’re cute too but I’m biased. Haha 😀 You’re the second person to recommend her books to me- I might have to give them a shot!

What a great challenge! What’s better than talking about joy? I love all of these aside from traveling. I get car sick! 😦

Oh no! I’m so grateful that I don’t feel sick (unless I try to read in the mountains). We have to take the twisty roads through the mountains when we go to Bristol or the beach. I LOVE that route- especially in the fall 🙂

What cutie little doggy faces they are, what breeds of dog are they? Just curious.

I am definitely looking forward to whipping out my blanket scarf when the weather cools down, but other than that, I prefer the warmer weather to stay.

Hehe, thanks! I think they’re cute, too! Lylee (the bigger one on the left) is a husky + boxer mix (+ who knows what else… I think she looks like a Carolina Dog) and Enzo is a whippet + collie (+ maybe weimaraner + who knows, haha… the vet thinks maybe a Nova Scotia duck tolling retriever). Both 100% mutts 🙂 Just how we like ’em.

      I need a blanket scarf!

I love this list 🙂 Mine would be winter over fall though. I love Halloween, but I just tolerate fall because it gets me one step closer to winter! It’s 91 here today, GIVE ME WINTER.

I’m really enjoying The Lunar Chronicles 🙂 Thank you! I really think there’s something to be said for being present in those moments with your little family or on those long road trips. If you can find joy in those moments then you can find joy in anything!

I would LOVE to hold game nights with my friends! K hates game, haha. I asked him to play cards last weekend and he goes, “I hate cards!” I told him I’ve been with him for 9 years and I’ve never seen him play cards- how does he still know he hates them after 9 years.
      Hahahaha.

I’m on Chamber of Secrets now in my HP re-read (slash operation actually read 5-7 this go around!) and UGH I totally remember why I loved these books so dang much. SO SO GOOD.

I love fall.. can’t wait for it to actually start. It’s still in the 90’s. I love wearing shorts and dresses but wouldn’t mind being able to wear my new scarves and leggings. I also hardly ever play video games (I like them but I’m terrible at them and also don’t make time for them), but I looove board games. I used to play Professor Layton! I have an old Nintendo DS that I haven’t broken out in a while, and I have two Professor Layton games.

The only video games I play (on very rare occasions) are Animal Crossing and the Prof. Layton games. Haha. My husband is not a gamer, not a golfer, not a sports guy…. haha! He’s my male anti-stereotype. Lol

I did a two and half week trip out west with my family when I was in high school. I LOVED the traveling aspect (although I was a totally awful, bitchy teen at that point in my life). I’d love to do that again, this time with K 🙂

Totally with you on the books and fall too. I can’t wait to take walks in the COOL weather.

I was just talking to my husband the other day about how fun road trips are too. It’s so fun to just drive around and see places you’ve never seen before. I love it.

Your dogs are the cutest. We’re adopting a second dog this weekend!

My dad tends to get sick on road trips (or he used to… last time he did alright). As long as I don’t read on twisty roads I’m good 🙂 I wish we lived closer to the southern part of the US or the western part so road trips were more feasible there, too!
