Five Things: JOY

I saw that out there in the blog-o-sphere there’s a #BlogtemberChallenge going on. I haven’t participated yet but I figured I’d give it a go today  🙂 The prompt is Five Things That Bring You Joy.

| 1 | My Little Family
This one probably goes without saying… Just tossing a toy with Lylee or snuggling with Enzo or watching K go about his day puts a stupid smile on my face. Those three really do make me the happiest in the world.

| 2 | Fall
I know everyone’s lusting over fall right now, but I am so in love with this season. I love pumpkins and Halloween and crispy leaves. My favorite end-of-summer outfit is a pair of TOMS with some jean shorts and a warm sweatshirt. I love pulling boots over my skinny jeans and draping a scarf around my neck and feeling the warm sun on my face while walking the dogs on a cool 50 degree day. Serious perfection. I grin from ear to ear.

| 3 | A Good Book
I’m talking about a book that introduces me to a bunch of new friends and throws me into an adventure with them where we laugh and cry and eventually succeed. You know- the book that’s got good font and the perfect number of pages and an appealing cover. (i.e. Harry Potter)

| 4 | Road Trips
Vacations/trips make me happy, but the getting-there part is always one of my favorite things. Long drives don’t bother me. In fact, I love hanging out in the passenger seat and reading a good book or hunting for license plates or chatting with the driver. Trips with K and/or my parents are my favorite. A good satellite radio connection and halfway coffee stop are a must.

| 5 | Games
I don’t really play video games, but I’m a big fan of board games and group games (like Cards Against Humanity or Apples to Apples). I also like crosswords and fill-in puzzles and wordsearches, etc. There’s also a Gameboy series (Professor Layton) that I like to play sometimes. It’s a bunch of puzzles and mind-games. K tells me that playing mind-games on him brings me joy, too. *eyeroll*

I thought it’d be harder to come up with five things, but that was easy. What are some things that bring you joy?

Like I said, this post is a part of the #blogtemberChallenge with Love Bailey Jean.

Amen to all of this! Your family is so so so cute. 😀 You should go read The Husband’s Secret by Liane Moriarty (unless you already have, because I know I’m late to the party on her books). I’m 5 pages from the end and IT IS SO GOOD. I LOOOVE group games like Cards Against Humanity!

    • Louise September 7, 2016 / 8:43 pm

Thanks, girl. I think they’re cute too but I’m biased. Haha 😀 You’re the second person to recommend her books to me- I might have to give them a shot!

What a great challenge! What’s better than talking about joy? I love all of these aside from traveling. I get car sick! 😦

    • Louise September 7, 2016 / 8:45 pm

Oh no! I’m so grateful that I don’t feel sick (unless I try to read in the mountains). We have to take the twisty roads through the mountains when we go to Bristol or the beach. I LOVE that route- especially in the fall 🙂

  3. lifeasunusuals September 7, 2016 / 8:14 am

What cutie little doggy faces they are, what breeds of dog are they? Just curious.

I am definitely looking forward to whipping out my blanket scarf when the weather cools down, but other than that, I prefer the warmer weather to stay.

    • Louise September 7, 2016 / 8:49 pm

Hehe, thanks! I think they’re cute, too! Lylee (the bigger one on the left) is a husky + boxer mix (+ who knows what else… I think she looks like a Carolina Dog) and Enzo is a whippet + collie (+ maybe weimaraner + who knows, haha… the vet thinks maybe a Nova Scotia duck tolling retriever). Both 100% mutts 🙂 Just how we like ’em.

      I need a blanket scarf!

I love this list 🙂 Mine would be winter over fall though. I love Halloween, but I just tolerate fall because it gets me one step closer to winter! It’s 91 here today, GIVE ME WINTER.

    • Louise September 7, 2016 / 8:51 pm

Winter is a close, close second. I loooove winter. Especially on those godforsaken 91 degree days. UGH.

  5. simplyalexandra12 September 7, 2016 / 9:36 am

Oh fun! I am definitely 100% ready for fall as well! 🙂 I can’t wait for it to cool down here!!! My little family is my very favorite, and a road trip with KC is one of my favorite things… in the entire world. So much fun. I think you miss a lot when you don’t drive. Though sometimes it’s not feasible. and YAY FOR BOOKS! I hope that you are enjoying the Lunar Chronicles. 🙂 XO – Alexandra

I’m really enjoying The Lunar Chronicles 🙂 Thank you! I really think there’s something to be said for being present in those moments with your little family or on those long road trips. If you can find joy in those moments then you can find joy in anything!

We are the absolute same. The would be my five, if I were writing this. And reading your paragraph on fall made me smile so big…It’s just the BEST.

    • Louise September 7, 2016 / 9:01 pm

I’m so glad these things bring you joy, too!! I love how easily attainable they are 😉 Well… except for fall. Haha. That one is pretty limited.

  7. Rebecca Jo September 7, 2016 / 10:19 am

Games!! YES!!! I am ALWAYS up to play games. I love my grand sons (at least 1 of them) is in the age of game playing. He’s so fun … doesnt throw a fit if he loses – just likes to play.

    • Louise September 7, 2016 / 9:02 pm

Ughhh, my husband HATES playing games. Haha! I always trap friends into play them when they’re over 🙂 I want to organize a game night soon!

  8. Nadine September 7, 2016 / 10:41 am

I love all these things too!!! I was just saying to Chris the other day that I wish we would play games together or with our families or groups of friends. Maybe this fall we can 🙂

    • Louise September 7, 2016 / 9:06 pm

I would LOVE to hold game nights with my friends! K hates game, haha. I asked him to play cards last weekend and he goes, “I hate cards!” I told him I’ve been with him for 9 years and I’ve never seen him play cards- how does he still know he hates them after 9 years.

  9. Elyse September 7, 2016 / 11:49 am

Love your little family! I have to agree to all of these but I’ll add I love my extended family – maybe moreso since we moved, since I live for phonecalls and Facetime.

    • Louise September 7, 2016 / 9:08 pm

I thought about saying family in general, but I sometimes they drive me nuts 😉 Haha, then again, so does my little family of four! Ha!

  10. Mattie September 7, 2016 / 1:03 pm

Your description of fall is what I love too. Allll the praise hands emojis. I don’t even know how to describe my love of fall…I just get a giddy feeling whenever it’s near/here. AHHH! Hahaha. I’m on Chamber of Secrets now in my HP re-read (slash operation actually read 5-7 this go around!) and UGH I totally remember why I loved these books so dang much. SO SO GOOD.

    • Louise September 7, 2016 / 9:14 pm

I need to re-read the HP series. I have never done it all the way through since the first time I read them. I play to as the illustrated versions are released 🙂 Fall is 100% the best!

  11. Olya @ The Siberian American September 7, 2016 / 2:05 pm

Seriously, I could copy and paste this list, and it would be true for me, too! 😉 I love a good road trip. So excited to road trip to Gatlinburg next month!

    • Louise September 7, 2016 / 9:15 pm

Ahh, I’m so excited for our trip to Myrtle Beach, too! We need to road trip to Michigan soon- your travel posts give me so much vacation inspiration! Ha!

    • Louise September 7, 2016 / 9:16 pm

Ha, neither does my husband. Unless friends are over we are a no-game house. Haha

  12. Jess September 7, 2016 / 3:13 pm

I love fall.. can’t wait for it to actually start. It’s still in the 90’s. I love wearing shorts and dresses but wouldn’t mind being able to wear my new scarves and leggings. I also hardly ever play video games (I like them but I’m terrible at them and also don’t make time for them), but I looove board games. I used to play Professor Layton! I have an old Nintendo DS that I haven’t broken out in a while, and I have two Professor Layton games.

    • Louise September 7, 2016 / 9:27 pm

The only video games I play (on very rare occasions) are Animal Crossing and the Prof. Layton games. Haha. My husband is not a gamer, not a golfer, not a sports guy…. haha! He’s my male anti-stereotype. Lol

    • Louise September 7, 2016 / 9:28 pm

I find joy in collecting them, too 😉 Haha! Those my bank account isn’t necessarily happy about that. Lately I’ve been hitting the library pretty hard!

  13. Amanda September 7, 2016 / 4:39 pm

I LOVE road trips too! Long drives really aren’t that bad, and I hope that I can get Jordan on board so we can take road trips with the family 🙂 I’m slowly working him in.

    • Louise September 7, 2016 / 9:29 pm

I did a two and half week trip out west with my family when I was in high school. I LOVED the traveling aspect (although I was a totally awful, bitchy teen at that point in my life). I’d love to do that again, this time with K 🙂

  14. Megan September 7, 2016 / 5:39 pm

These would absolutely be my five too! So happy to have just found your blog 🙂

    • Louise September 7, 2016 / 9:30 pm

Thanks for stopping by, Megan! I hope you come back, haha! Yay for fall right around the corner!

  15. StephTheBookworm September 7, 2016 / 6:23 pm

YUP to every single one of these. I’m a huge game nut and Cards Against Humanity and Apples to Apples are probably my two favorites. Whenever I get together with friends, this is what we do.

Totally with you on the books and fall too. I can’t wait to take walks in the COOL weather.

I was just talking to my husband the other day about how fun road trips are too. It’s so fun to just drive around and see places you’ve never seen before. I love it.

Your dogs are the cutest. We’re adopting a second dog this weekend!

    • Louise September 7, 2016 / 9:38 pm

Have you ever played Scattergories or The Game of Things? Those two games are so much fun, too! Cool weather walks are the best- I want to skip work all. the. time. in the fall and winter 🙂 Haha!
YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYY for adopting a second dog! I think my heart quadrupled in size when we brought Enzo home! Our two babes have such different personalities but I love to love on them and watch them play together 🙂

  16. Amanda September 7, 2016 / 10:05 pm

HP was where my mind immediately went, too… love it!!! lol

    • Louise September 10, 2016 / 10:06 am

It’s the best 🙂 Probably my favorite series ever, haha!

  17. Patricia Victa September 7, 2016 / 10:42 pm

Yeah road trips! When and where was your last trip? 😀

    • Louise September 10, 2016 / 10:08 am

Our last road trip was to Massachusetts and New Hampshire in July with my parents. That was a long one, haha 🙂 We have another one coming up soon to Myrtle Beach- this time just the two of us.

  18. texerinsydney September 8, 2016 / 5:08 am

Your little family brings me joy too, and I don’t even know y’all in real life.
I love board games too! And a good book – duh!

    • Louise September 10, 2016 / 10:10 am

Ha, I’m glad we could bring you some joy, too 🙂 I’d say 97% of the time it’s joyous here. The other 3% those dingbats give me a headache. Haha!

  19. shelldbell September 9, 2016 / 3:31 pm

Yes to all of this!!!! I WANT to love road trips, and I used to, but I get SO carsick if I’m not the one driving. Even when I am driving I get queasy after awhile. Sigh.

    • Louise September 10, 2016 / 10:14 am

My dad tends to get sick on road trips (or he used to… last time he did alright). As long as I don’t read on twisty roads I’m good 🙂 I wish we lived closer to the southern part of the US or the western part so road trips were more feasible there, too!

  20. Emily (@embergreyblog) September 10, 2016 / 4:55 pm

Yes to all of it! Your pups are just the cutest. I LOVE a good road trip – but have realized the last 10 years that my favorite kind of road trip is the one I take solo 😉

    • Louise September 12, 2016 / 9:54 pm

My best friend lives two hours away and when I go to see her I crank up the tunes and get a sweet drink for the road and LOVE THE SOLITUDE 🙂 I need to start investing in some audio books, too, for those trips!

    • Louise September 12, 2016 / 9:54 pm

Thanks! I can’t take the credit but I was happy to participate! 😀
