Fall Goals: Me-Time Activities

In regards to Wednesday’s post, K was not physically fighting Lylee… They were arguing and she was being punished with the squirt bottle on occasion. We don’t physically fight the dogs. (They’d win.)

Let’s just get this out of the way: I failed pretty hard as far as “summer goals” went… If you need a refresher, this season I had planned to:

  • Paint front door & replace house numbers
  • Build small deck in backyard
  • Scrub greasy build-up off kitchen cabinets
  • Order Year 3 Photos & start scrapbook
  • Wash couch cushion slips & dust fans/blinds/neglected places

Yeah, not much accomplished. I’m going to approach Fall a little differently. I believed that life is too short to do a whole bunch of things you don’t want to do. A few weeks ago I put in my notice at Justice and then I decided to dedicate Saturdays to volunteering and then I signed up for a yoga challenge. Less obligatory activities and more me-time activities.

Fall Goals

  • Paint the front door (I’m bloody determined to make this happen.)
  • Keep with the #30DayYogaChallenge that I signed up for (I’m 5 for 5 days right now!!)
  • After the challenge is over continue to practice yoga weekly
  • Continue volunteering weekly
  • Order 3 year photos for scrapbook
  • Get invites out for Halloween Party
  • Walk/bike to work at least twice a week
  • Create a fire pit area in the backyard
  • Get all the pieces of my Halloween costume together BEFORE the week of the party
  • One crockpot meal a week (**buy crockpot liners!)
  • Hardcore wash the dog beds & blankets
  • Wait until the end of Nov. to break out Christmas stuff (... yeah right)
  • Get X-mas shopping done!

Easy enough. I made 5 goals for summer and accomplished half of one so I bet I’ll do great with 13 goals. (Ha.)

  1. Sometimes I set goals and when I re-evaulate, I realize I really had no desire or need to do some of them, so I don’t do them. That’s okay in my book!

How far are you from work? I’d love to be close enough to walk/bike! Especially because the train is a grand PITA these days and I drove in this morning and was rear ended twice on the way in.

My aunt sent me a beginners Yoga DVD, I need to get myself a DVD player…I took ours to the shore. LOL

I think a lot of my summer goals were pretty “meh” in my mind. Some of them need done soon (cabinets… couch slips), but I’ll get to them eventually πŸ˜‰

I’m about 5 blocks from work. Close enough I should/could walk every day. It’s a 15 minutes walk if I go slow and take my time.

My thighs were ON FIRE by Friday. It’s tough but I’m forcing myself to go (to yoga) each day. I’m headed there in an hour. Haha!

Too true that there are too many good things to spend your time on what you don’t want to do! The volunteering and yoga are some great things. A fire pit area would be so fun.

They’re time consuming but I try to remind myself that they’re fun and enjoyable things to do. I’m introverted so going out is exhausting sometimes… lol. But I am really enjoying my time at the volunteer site and yoga studio πŸ™‚

I walked to work twice last week, so I felt pretty good πŸ™‚ I’m five blocks away. I typically have errands to run or places to go on my lunch, so I don’t always walk. But I should more often!

I LOLed at getting the costume before the week of the party. So guilty of that myself. 2 years ago we were the Sanderson sisters from Hocus Pocus and Megan and I were at the thrift store like 2 days before our party. Whoops!
To be honest, I’ll probably have Christmas stuff up like November 21. No shame. That’s the end of November right? Sort of? (My birthday is November 20 and Christmas is nowhere on my radar until my birthday is over.)

I think Nov. 21st is totally appropriate πŸ™‚ The Christmas season just seems so short and I like to have my decorations up for more than a month!

I can’t count how many times I’ve put costumes together last minute. So ridiculous when you know that I’ve had the idea for the costume for MONTHS. Haha..

  7. You can do it! Sometimes it’s just harder to get things done than others. No sweat. I frequently revert to fun goals in my monthly ones. πŸ˜‰ I want to see before/afters of your front door space. I’m imagining a magazine in my head with like a snazzy door color, new numbers, and then like a pot of mums and a pumpkin. LOL – getting carried away. πŸ˜› Great goals, I have FINALLY been home for a few weekends in a row, which means we can do a normal schedule! I just need to fold in some exercise.. because that’s definitely lacking! Good luck with your fall goals and have a great weekend! πŸ™‚ XO – Alexandra

I try to save my fun goals for after I get the un-fun ones done, and then I end up getting NOTHING done! I need to just do the fun stuff when I want to do it πŸ™‚

I like more me-time! Also, I think it’s brilliant to get some Christmas shopping done early. Yesterday I ordered a few things for my mom and for Nick’s mom and it felt good to get started. Plus you don’t have to shell out a bunch of money all at once if you start early! Good luck – I love reading goals posts!

It really can make such a huge difference when you focus more on things that are fun that you are really interested in doing. It sounds like you have such a good variety of things listed for fall, I’m definitely a November 1st bring out all the Christmas decor person– though we don’t tend to go too crazy with decorating.

I think it only makes sense to decorate early in Nov. There are too many cute Christmas decorations to only have them up for a month. Two months is totally appropriate! πŸ™‚

  16. What color are you going to paint the door?! I tend to do a lot of my Xmas shopping year round, but I really failed at that this last year so shopping early sounds pretty good to me! (Although there is something about going out to shop when the lights are up, Santa is at the mall, etc.!)

I think I usually get 50% of my shopping done pre-holiday season. I totally agree about the seasonal shopping- the malls and little stores are so magical!

We’ve narrowed it down to a red door or a blue door… I think we’re leaning toward blue (although my vote was for red, haha)!
