IMUO (in my unpopular opinion)…

The wind is changing and I can feel fall in the air. Monday it was dreary and rainy and dark and cloudy all day. Be still, my heart…. ❤︎ And with that, let’s move on to my first post of unpopular opinion.

unpopular-opinions

Summer is the absolute worst.
Sorry, but it is. I hate getting sunburned. I hate that my thighs stick together (obviously summer’s fault, not my love for food). I hate the frizzy hair (if I straighten it) or the flat hair (if I curl it) that happens as soon as I leave the house. I. Hate. Sweating. If I had a private pool my opinion would be different. But I don’t. And, therefore, summer sucks. I miss the snow.

I’m not a Beyonce fan.
She drives me insane. While I don’t know her personally, she seems like she thinks she’s very important. I don’t jive well with people like that. Plus, she went on a vegan kick once and then wore leather leggings… What?!
I don’t know. She might be a lovely, humble woman. I really have no idea.

Hakuna Matata seems backward to me.
I know that Disney lovers live by this phrase, but I honestly believe the point of The Lion King was to show that “hakuna matata” doesn’t always work. If Simba hadn’t listened to Nala and he’d dismissed his responsibilities then Pride Rock would’ve gone to the dogs hyenas. Being laid back has it’s perks, but I’m not a fan of “hakuna matata.” Sometimes sh*t gets real and you have to show up and fight your uncle.

(I’ve put a lot of thought into that thought.)

I don’t care about any ball sports.
None. Baseball, basketball, football- they all bore me. And Ohio’s got some pretty good ones with the Cavs and OSU. I’ll sit through a game for the sake of other people in the room, but I actually don’t care. (Obviously I’d watch NASCAR all day, every day given the opportunity.)

Rushing through books makes me sad.
True fact: It took me over a year to read the last Harry Potter book. I found out where Deathly Hallows pt.1 ended and read up to that point in line at the theater. And then finished the book months later. I HATE closing the door on my favorite friends. I actually read books that I hate a lot faster than I read the good ones.

I hate the phrase, “Live your best life.”
I can’t tell you why I hate this phrase, but I really, really do. I am all about doing the things that make you happy and following your dreams… but this phrase makes me roll my eyes. Ha.

That about sums it up for my first round of Unpopular Opinions. It took a while to remember/write these down, so I’m not sure when the second installment will happen…

Do you agree with me on any of these? What unpopular opinions do you have?

It seems that Quidditch is the only sport I care about. 😀
And yeah, it can’t always be hakuna matata in real life.

  2. Hahaha! I quite enjoyed this. Summer IS the worst! I don’t have frizzy hair problems, but does that matter when I’m so sweaty I don’t want to leave my hair down anyway??? I’m indifferent to Beyonce, and sports, and I really like your point about Hakuna Matata, since the point of the movie really was, “Yo, Simba, stop neglecting your responsibilities.” As for books, I am sadly a skimmer and sometimes I try to slow myself down but it’s hard. But the plus is that rereads are more fun when you didn’t catch every single little detail the first time around!

I’m a book skimmer, too, when I get into it. I have to remind myself to read all the words in the entire paragraph. I also tend to flip ahead and read chunks, just to make sure my main characters get out of the situation ok….. hahaha. I’m horrible!

I second your Hakuna Matata sentiment, and I raise you this about Disney……….
I have the unpopular opinion (and I’ve talked about it before, so I’m repeating myself) that the Disney princesses aren’t my thang. With Disney, I like the animal movies. The Fox and the Hound. The Jungle Book. The Lion King. The Aristocrats. Lady & the Tramp. 101 Dalmations. Give me those over a princess movie anyday.

I don’t mind princess movies. I don’t need a man to save me or love to make my day great, but I think the princess movies have a lot to offer. (Awww, shit. I feel a blog post comin’ on… haha!) That said, the animals movies are so wonderful and heart warming. But when an animals dies in one of those movies it shatters my heart- way worse than when a human dies in a cartoon…. lol.

Yep. I agree. I enjoy her music for the most part, but she acts like Queen of the World and I just won’t succumb to that kind of ego.

  5. Yup, not a fan of summer at all either. I really hate being hot and sweaty. I’m much more into the fall weather.

Also not a sports fan at all. I feel so left out during football season and wish I liked it but I just don’t. I don’t even understand it. Ha!

I freakin’ hate sweating. When I was younger my grandparents had a private pool so that spoiled me. If I still had that I bet I’d love summer 😉
I prefer football over the others (basketball, baseball, soccer- in that order), but I still couldn’t care less. Fortunately, I understand the game from years as a marching band member, forced to watch games 🙂

I am not a huge Beyonce fan either & dont get the magical influence she has on everyone. She actually is too DIVA for me.
& I hate summer too. All the sticky skin? EWWWWWW
I’m also with you on sports – except I will give a side pass for tennis – but all the “Big ones” that people freak over? Dont get it. I wore a hockey jersey to a super bowl party one time & everyone gave me so much grief. I just grabbed something out of Ricky’s closet – I could care less it was another sport (I wont even admit that I didnt know it WAS a different sport) 😉 haha

Summer is so not my favorite. I hate being hot as well…and all the other things you listed up there. Give me fall or winter anytime over summer. Woof. And you make an excellent point about hakuna matata. I would have to agree with you. The only sport I care about is football, I cant stand watching baseball. Talk about put me to sleep instantly! And I care nothing about basketball either. March Madness? More like March sadness because soon it will be hot again. LOL.You are so right about Beyonce. She does make it seem like she is awfully important. I read somewhere that her alter ego is really like some kind of evil worship thing. It could all be BS but it is still weird. I dont think most normal people have alter egos. With me you get what you get and that’s it. My unpopular opinion for the day? I cant stand the term girlboss. Why cant you just be boss?

My husband watches the Cavs and it gives me such anxiety even though I REALLY don’t care. Ugh.
I’ve never put any thought into “girlboss”, but you’re totally right!

I HATE summer too. I used to love it as a kid but that was when the only thing I had to do outside was swim in a pool, so no wonder I loved summer then. I’ll admit here too that I’m not a huge fan of Beyonce. At least I don’t think she’s life changing, sure, she’s got a few good songs but this weird idolation I don’t get.

  13. bahahha I start typing up stuff like this a lot. I should press publish sometime! You’ve given me the inspiration, lady! 🙂 I also HATE summer. I agree, 100% and it makes me sad. It makes me sad for my future kids because I won’t want to do anything fun with them in summer unless I move north. UGH. I am embracing any bit of fall we are getting and I cannot cannot wait for winter… 🙂 Um Lol on the Lion King, and also Beyonce. Any animal disney movie is too sad for me to watch #sorrynotsorry I know everyone loves TLK — but it’s too sad for me! Also, Beyonce, is kind of whatever for me. I like her music sometimes… and she’s pretty… but like I don’t really “follow” what she’s up to… and I think it’s confusing and weird to marry a rapper who raps about the effed up crap that JayZ raps about. No thanks. LOL XO – Alexandra

The Beyonce vegan thing, ugh ugh. I’m not a Beyonce fan either, and I get annoyed when anyone goes on a vegan diet for “health reasons.” I love how much thought you have put into the Hakuna Matata idea, I totally agree. Hakuna Matata…unless you need to not, then take care of stuff. I kinda dislike almost all inspirational phrases – of course I’m trying to live my best life, what did you think I was doing?

This is an awesome post. I don’t care about any sports at all!! I have a really hard time not rushing through books when I love them a lot. Next time, I’m going to remember what you say and try to slow down. Also, along the lines of “live your best life,” I kind of hate when people say things like “do what you love and you’ll never work a day in your life,” or things about how you should love what do because not everyone can do that! My dad worked in a jail, a job he hated, for 21 years to put food on the table and a roof over our heads and I respect him so much for that. I feel like when people talk about loving what you do they imply that you’re not going to be as happy if you just do a job that can pay your bills. Work doesn’t have to be your life. It’s awesome if it can be, but I feel like quotes like that just depress people who don’t have their dream job. And realistically not everyone is going to have a dream job. Okay sorry for the rant :)))

The live your best life quote just gets under my skin. Obviously I’m trying to live the best life I can, but I have a mortgage to pay and dogs to feed and gas tanks to fill. Sometimes work isn’t enjoyable and THAT’S OK. Not everything in life is going to be fun. As long as your contributing and kind and working hard to NOT be a burden then I think you’re doing just fine.
