On December 1st Erin released the categories for her Book Challenge 6.0!
Chances are you know how this works… If not, Erin has the rules and details over on her page. The challenge goes from January 1st to April 30th, 2017. (Whoa… “2017”… That’s weird to type…)
Here are my picks:
| 10 points | Starts with the letter “W”: Winter by Marissa Meyer *
| 10 points | Six words in the title: The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams
| 15 points | Has a (mostly) green cover: The Magician’s Nephew by C.S. Lewis
| 20 points | A homonym in the title: The One by Kiera Cass *
| 20 points | By your favorite author: Heartless by Marissa Meyer *
| 25 points | Set in the city/town/state/territory/county/province where you live: The Last Runaway by Tracy Chevalier
| 30 points | A “Rory Gilmore” book: Atonement by Ian McEwan
| 30 points | From a genre that you’ve never read/rarely read (*thriller*): The Woman in Cabin 10 by Ruth Ware
| 35 points | With time travel: A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L’Engle (or Outlander if I get adventurous)
* Right now I’m participating in the Semi-Charmed Winter 2016 Book Challenge but that ends January 31st. Three of my books for Erin’s challenge repeat from that list but Winter is 800+ pages so I doubt I’ll read much more than that in January.
I really am so grateful that Erin hosts this challenge. She’s the most gracious host and doesn’t pressure anyone to finish or even join. She’s encouraging and attentive, and she interacts with you the entire time! Her challenges always have fun categories and they remind me to switch off the TV and read. If you’re looking for a fun way to ease (back) into reading then I recommend this challenge. You can change your book choices, too, so you’re not forced to read something you end up hating!
She posts her lists to her blog, but you can also play along on Facebook and GoodReads!
Please join us!
*Off topic: The word “homonym” reminds me of Britney Spears’ I’m a Slave 4 U because I swear she says “Because a homonym my name.” Hahahahaha! (It’s actually “Leave behind my name and age?” but I had to look that up and I’m still not a believer.)
i have tried reading atonement several times with no luck! maybe it’s a one of those books that’s a slow starter but ends up being amazing? let me know!

I think I’ve given it a try once or twice, too. Third times a charm, right? Ha. I’ll let you know!

lolol Britney! 😛 I like your picks. I have that Debbie Macomber book, and I need to get it read this month. 🙂 Her books are so fluffy and cute. Good luck with Winter, I really enjoyed the whole series, very excited for Heartless. Enjoy The One too! Another good series, though fluffier. 🙂 Tracy Chevalier is a great author! I need to look into that one. Also considering Outlander… yikes! XO – Alexandra

I’ll be happy to finish those series finally, ha. (I know the Selection still has one or two more books, though…) I’ll only get to Outlander if I get ambitious 😉
I actually think I saw that Debbie Macomber book sitting at my grandma’s last weekend, ha! I need to ask her to borrow it before she trades it to another friend. Ha. She’s always trading books. Lol

I want to try this challenge – it seems doable to me – but I’m not good at planning ahead. I’ll pick a genre & then go from there 😉 You’re an overachiever 🙂

Overachiever and under-do-er, hahahaha 😉 Challenges encourage me to turn off the computer or Netflix and pick up a book. There’s no way I’ll finish every challenge I’m a part of 😉
This is a fun one to do! I always look forward to Erin’s!

Loved Winter. The series ends really well and I have to recommend Stars Above too. It’s a bunch of short-stories with one taking place after the events of Winter. I’m on the waiting list for Heartless and can’t wait to get my mitts on it. I’ve read 2 (or 3) of the Outlander books. They are good but definitely long! I’m unfamiliar with Tracy Chevalier so excited to learn more about her! Erin is a great host and I”m really excited about my list for this Challenge!

I’ve been reading some of the short stories along the way where they fit in, but I will definitely be asking for Stars Above (and/or getting it myself) once I finish Winter. I’ve just been collecting the Lunar Chronicles so my plan is to purchase Heartless. I love Alice in Wonderland, I’m a big fan of Meyer, and I might as well own it! 🙂 Haha!

Wait…it says, “leave behind my name and age”?! That seems so wrong. So so wrong. I always just mumble at that part hahaha. I think I thought it said, “harmony” maybe? ANYWAY, yay for book challenges! This is only my second ever. I was super excited to be able to fill it with only books I reeeeally wanted to read already!

RIGHT?? She mumbles it. I had to listen to the song and look up the lyrics to figure out the true words. And apparently it was a dig at her parents/the world because she was young and wanted to be taken seriously? Not sure…. I don’t remember. Either way, she was NINETEEN when she recorded that. Like, WHAT??
I’m glad you’re doing the challenge!! I pulled the majority of my picks from my TBR list which makes me so happy!!

Ohh I want to join!! I’ve looked at joining reading challenges before but the categories always seem too narrow or not super appealing to me. This one seems challenging enough to get you to read outside your comfort zone but also open enough to let you choose how to do it. I also just started watching Gilmore Girls and I love the idea of a “Rory Gilmore book”.

Ohh, so good books there! And some ones that I’ve had on my TBR for a while. I almost decided to join in with this challenge, but I’m not really into setting myself a list of books to read, so I decided against it. I’ll just be using it to find new books haha.
I’m interested to see what you think about The Hitchhiker’s Guide… – will you be going for all five in one? Or just one of the books?

If I like the first one, I’ll probably pursue the entire Hitchhiker’s Guide series. So many of these came off my TBR list, so I’m pretty excited to get started on them!
