Everything is Great

The creativity bug has been on vacation these last few weeks… Most of my posts have been lists or recaps or link-ups. All those things are great, but I usually try to throw in an opinion piece or heartfelt rant here and there. I’ve just been so tired. We’re both healthy and safe and happy, so I feel terrible complaining, but I really am exhausted right now.

You know how some people get tired and sad during the last half of winter but suddenly perk up in the spring with all the sunshine and rain and blooming flowers? Yeah- I’m the opposite. I hate this season and it totally drains me. Plus, Thunderstorms + Lylee = Audrey on the couch all night with a trembling dog and maybe 3 or 4 interrupted hours of sleep.

It’s also our gateway into the “crazy season” with the business. And tax season. (Sweet Mother of Pearl, don’t get me started on the taxes we owe this year *sob*) Anyway… stress levels are HIGH and there’s very little separation of personal and professional and canine stress at the moment.

So that’s what’s going on with me right now. Ha.

But in other random news…

Lylee went to the doggie spa (read: groomers) for the first time and had her nails professionally dremeled. It was taxing on both of us, but she was happy at the end and her nails looked good. So that’s a win.

We host an Easter meal at our house for K’s side of the family so I’m gearing up for that. People are always eager to bring sides so it’s never too much stress on me 😉 This year I’m going to make a mashed potato casserole, carrot bread, and decorated eggs! We’re either going to have brisket or a pork shoulder… I hate ham so the perk of hosting Easter is eliminating it from the menu 😀

Our 4 year anniversary is on the 27th of this month. K planned last year’s outing so it’s my turn this year. (I don’t know when we started taking turns…?) Any ideas for me?

And with that I’m off to try meditation (or a bottle glass of wine) and hopefully enjoy the weekend with family and friends and church 🙂

What are your weekend/Easter plans?

  1. I’m pretty much drowning in work right now too, so my creativity is nil! I’m sure you’ll have an awesome Easter with all your family. We will be spending Easter just the two of us and a huge turkey because that’s our preferred meat. Going to make a ton of soup and turkey sandwiches with the leftovers which I’m most excited about.

    1. Our crazy work season starts around June/July and usually lasts until mid-Sept/Oct. So technically we’re not in our busiest season… but it’s exhausting to be a part of K’s company because it’s impossible for us to not bring work home. Plus we’ve been on the road every month this year for some sort of show or competition.
Oooh…. turkey soup. You should blog a recipe or two for that!

  2. Sorry to hear you’re feeling stressed and exhausted. I am in the same boat! Same here, I like doing link ups and random things but also try to include a more creative blog every week… been a little lacking lately. Creativity has been zapped. I think it kind of comes and goes.

    Enjoy your Easter!

    1. It’s a good stress, I guess. Taxes mean we’re doing ok. Orders mean people want our product. Trips mean we’re making friends and shaking hands. I really shouldn’t complain 🙂
We had a nice Easter! I hope you did, too!

  3. Nothing wrong with a little complaining every now and then! We are all human after all! And oh do I feel you on the taxes. We’re paying in too. I’m not happy about it at all.

    1. Whew- it felt good to complain just a little bit 😉
I really am thankful for a job and financial security and all that. But sometimes the balance is stressful!

  4. I feel you lady, I’m enjoying the weather and green… but it’s way too busy this time of year! April and May are so difficult!! Weddings, showers, graduations, busy busy busy!!! Help! hahah I hope that things pass for you soon and start feeling better. But I understand how you are feeling! One of my favorite things to do for KC’s bday is to go to an arcade (like a kid one) but that has food and drinks, and just play like kids. It’s great, and not a pastime that either of us had or anything, it’s just kind of unusual fun for “grown ups” hehe. I’ve been really wanting to do picnics… 🙂 Happy anniversary soon! 🙂 XO – Alexandra

    1. Ooh, girl. I didn’t even think about weddings and graduation parties and all that. Fortunately we have mostly fall weddings this year and I don’t think there are any graduation parties for us. At least that I know of… ha.
An arcade would be a fun date! I’ve been so wrapped up in work I really haven’t thought about anything…. Hmm. Thanks!

  5. I know what you mean by your creative bug being on vaca. I to have been posting nothing but lists, recaps and linkups. It gets tough to come up with context. Happy Anniversary.

I’m the person that is hated – waiting to the last minute for taxes. We’re going tonight to have them done 🙂 haha At least its not Monday 🙂

  7. My creativity mojo hasn’t been super high lately. It’s like in my brain, I have ideas but when it comes to making them real … nope. Nothing. Nada. Zip. 😀 Taxes. Bleech. Still need to do my too. Shouldn’t be too complicated but I just hate doing them. One of the reasons I like to cook is because then I don’t have to eat anything I don’t like. HA!

    1. Yep, I agree. I go to type something and I end up hating it. Ugh.
Our accountant reminded us that when we have taxes to pay (for the business) it means we’re making money… So I guess in that respect we should be grateful. But BLEH anyway. Ha.
I love hosting Easter and avoiding ham. Ha!

  8. Lists and recaps are my go to posts as well. Spring is hard for us because allergies and sick kids are always a constant. Plus we have the summer bug so we dislike having to wait through spring LOL. Happy early anniversary! Can’t wait to hear what you plan!

    1. Funny enough, my list posts are usually super popular. I guess it’s an ok go-to. Ha.
I totally forgot about allergies. Then this weekend happened and they almost killed me. Ughhhh. Ha
      Thank you!

  9. Blah, sounds like between the thunderstorms, taxes, etc. a lot is just hitting you this month! Make sure to keep fitting positive things in your schedule, whether it’s something big like anniversary plans or something small like time to read a good book 🙂 Only two more to go on your challenge, I see!

I don’t have Easter plans, but I’m glad you reminded me since stores might be closed on Sunday! I am going to a new friend’s housewarming party on Saturday, which I’m looking forward to. Yay for making new friends!

    1. Thanks, Cat! 🙂 I’m actually down to one more book for the challenge (!!) and I’m SO determined to finish it! 😀 Haha!
Housewarming parties are so fun! Usually good food, lots of wine, and newly decorated kitchens and livings rooms!

  11. congrats on 4 happy years! i’m a terrible planner and more of a fly by the seat of my pants-er when it comes to dates LOL. this easter we’re taking a trip to the mountains with my kids. my family is in town and this is the first year my husband will be spending it with us in 5 years. he is deployed every Easter, so we’re super pumped!

    1. Thank you! I hope you guys had a great Easter together! That’s so exciting that your husband is home for the holiday! I hope y’all made it to the mountains!!

  12. I totally forgot about it being Easter. Well minus all the chocolate in the shops, but the official holiday sort of passed me by. I was hoping to get out somewhere with the Husband and the Pooch, but guess they will be going out without me and I’ll stay at home being bitter about having a broken foot. Sigh.

I’m feeling you with all the drama that is life at the moment. I just keep sneaking in some time with a good book or cake and it’s not too bad. In fact, I think I will make a cake and eat cake and read a book at the same time tonight. That’ll make life better.

Chin up lady. You got this 🙂

    1. A broken foot! Oof. That’d be terrible 😦 I hope you’ve been able to get out a bit and spend some time with the pup and husband!
Maybe I’ll make a cake once we’re home from our business trip this week 🙂

  13. I’m totally feeling uninspired lately. I hate going a full week without posting but this week was crazy and I’m not sure what to write about! With traveling I basically lost two days. I just got to New York to visit my family so I haven’t had much time for blogging, but my brother is in class right now and my parents are at work so I am catching up on my favorite bloggers. I’m glad everything is good and happy anniversary! Nick and I are hitting 4 years in August! We sort of take turns planning too, although Nick is way better than me. Anything that involves good food and wine is always good!

    1. I’m glad you’re catching up here! 😀 I hope your trip is going well! I don’t blame you at all for spending your time with family and away from the internet 🙂
I want to do something fun, but I’d really like to go all-out for 5 years so I’m trying to keep it low key this year. Haha!

  14. I’m with you about the attack of the lack of creativity. I’m right there with you posting lists and link-ups. Our blogging mojo will return. I’m sure of it. In the meantime, I enjoy these posts that are just genuine about what’s going on in your world.

    1. Thanks, Erin! I’ve been scheduling posts somewhat far in advance and I think that’s throwing me off a bit, too. Today was my last scheduled post, though, so I’m back to blogging on the fly for now! Ha!

  15. Hope you had a great Easter and a peaceful weekend! And happy early anniversary! I think initially our idea was to take turns planning anniversaries, but realistically I think my husband has planned only one anniversary, our 2nd. 😛 He did have the idea for this past year’s anniversary but I was the one who put together all the logistics to accomplish it. I think we’ve just come to realize that I’m the planner between the two of us! 🙂

    1. Thank you!
I’m typically the planner when it comes to events and anniversaries, but he took me to dinner last year somewhere new and that was nice 🙂 I thought about doing an overnight at a hotel, but we’ll be traveling the week before and it might be nice to actually be home… So I don’t know. Ha

  16. We owed a lot of taxes, too and then immediately after paying them, I had to do my first installment of quarterly taxes for my business. All that after 6 months of no income for maternity leave and I am BROKE right now. Every time we have to talk money or bills or what makes the most sense in terms of childcare, it stresses me out. So yeah. This is fine. Hahaha!

    1. We don’t pay quarterlies and we absolutely need to… So I have a feeling we’ll be in that boat, too.
Taxes are such a pain in the tush. We’ll both get it all figured out, though 🙂

    1. Yep yep yep. We filed an extension on Saturday. It’s convenient that late winter/spring is our slow season. *sarcasm*
Hopefully we wrap up the tax b/s in the next month or so. UGH.

    1. Ickkkk. I HATE ham. K does, too. My grandma is pretty good about providing an alternative around Christmas and Easter, but now that we host I never have to worry about it 😀 I don’t eat lamb either. Everyone finds it funny that I serve a traditionally Jewish meat for Easter. Lol
Mr. WS knows what’s up. Ha.
