I’ve had some thoughts lately but I don’t know that any of them are complete enough to be a post on their own…
I original wrote a sentence that said “My style has changed SO much in the last 15 years”, but then I went to find photographic proof and actually it hasn’t. Hahaha. It’s varied in degrees, but I feel like I have this borderline grunge/comfortable/country road sense of style. Audrey, what the hell does that mean? Well, that means that I wear a lot of black and dark colored neutrals. I prefer jeans, sweatshirts, and vans over anything else. I love my cowboy boots, cutoff shorts (that don’t reveal my buttcheeks), and oversized shirts. I also love being barefoot. My last job required me to dress office casual (shift/casual dresses, dress pants, nice shirt) but this job doesn’t and I am IN MY ELEMENT. Today I’m wearing cutoff army green shorts, a muscle tank, and an open black plaid flannel with lace-up Vans. Living my best life, guys.
I believe that the female world is shifting… I was perusing Met Gala pictures and I noticed all the uplifting comments on female pictures from other female celebrities. I think that’s a direct reflection of the female shift. Gone are the days of catty gossip and backstabbing frienemies. It’s cool to be kind and petty to be anything else. Don’t get me wrong, girls hating girls is still a thing. I know I have moments of jealous and cattiness despite preaching love and support. We all falter and slip. But dang, sisters! I feel like the unity and power born from the last, oh, let’s say 3 years, has really taken hold. I feel like I am constantly looking to uplifting and complimentary people to help change my heart and mind and attitude.
Also, I think a HUGE part of becoming a happy adult is surrounding yourself with amazing people. After an unpleasant or disrespectful exchange with someone I always wonder why I allow that person to continue to be a part of my life. I have a fantastic husband, incredible parents/in-laws/siblings, and doting friends. It’s ridiculous to carry around the emotional baggage of hurtful people.
I can’t remember if I’ve mentioned this here or not, but we added someone to the office staff at work. For the last +1 year it’s just been K and I in the office, but in April the guy that I was hired to replace actually came back. He’s no stranger- I’ve known him (and his girlfriend-turned-wife) for 8 years and K has known him for over 12. I was a little worried about the change since K and I are used to be alone. But guys… I love it. Ha! It’s another person to talk to and he makes coffee in the morning so it’s fresh and hot when I get in (K doesn’t drink coffee) and it’s just nice have another brain to bounce things off of. I don’t have a point to this paragraph- I’m just updating you on my work life. Lol
I love the song Good Morning by Max Frost. It’s uplifting and upbeat and even kind of spiritual. You don’t usually get all three of those in a Top 40s song!
My husband got me an Apple watch for Christmas and this past weekend we went and upgrade my iPhone (because it was looong overdue). I know this sounds incredibly materialistic, but it just feels so REFRESHING to have working technology that keeps me on time and in the know.
I don’t love the look of my blog. I just updated it a few weeks ago but I think I’m going to mess with it again.
**HAPPY ANNIVERSARY to my wonderful in-laws AND my husband’s grandparents (who are celebrating 60 YEARS!)!!
Anyway… I feel like I haven’t been super open or thoughtful in this space lately so I wanted to share some of the things rolling around my brain right now. I’d love to hear some of your recent random thoughts, too!
Love this post! We have a similar sense of style. Vans and flannel FOREVER.

Yesss. I have a pair of checker slip-on vans that are TORN TO SHREDS and I love them. K absolutely hates them and I have to hide them so he doesn’t throw them away. Hahaha.

It is always good to have someone else in the mix to be a buffer or use their brain & YES to fresh hot coffee.
I really think the trend is going so well with girls teaming up – I saw the other day someone posted a pic of the Olsen Twins & posted teh caption “What happened to them?” & people went off – saying they can do or look however they want, totally saying that however they want to live or look its up to them – I was like, Kudos to everyone for taking a stance on that. I approve 🙂

Absolutely- especially when they make ya coffee 😉
Yesss!! In my book club some of the members we kind of bashing the (female) author and I put the brakes on that as quickly and politely as I could 😉 We’ve gotta lift one another up!

I think for many, many years women have been pitted against one another. Once I worked at a place where most of the employees were female and all the leaders were, which sounds awesome – right? It wasn’t. There was so much backstabbing going on that it was toxic. Then I worked at another place with an all female team and it was amazing because our leader wasn’t threatened by us and our very vocal champion. It does make me feel so good to see woman standing up for each other versus trying to take down one another.
My style has definitely evolved but its mostly because now I’m an old coot. Occasionally I pick something up and I’m like, “Tanya – you ain’t 20!” and then I slink out of Forever 21. Also, I can tell you’re not a Cali girl. Vans over Chucks. 😀 If you want some help with freshening up your blog, let me know. I’d love to work with you!

I agree. I feel like within the last decade women have put the brakes on that competitive attitude and mindset. Your second work example sounds AWESOME!
Hahaha- I JUST walked through Forever 21 and thought to myself, ‘You could NEVER wear this stuff now.’ LOL
Thank you!!

Ooh your everyday clothes sound amazing and I’d love to dress more like that, more often. That’s great your new office mate is a good change, and that you already knew the person for so long! I do think girls being nice to other girls is getting better and I love it!!

I feel very grateful that my workplace is so laid back and I can wear comfortable stuff. It’s nice that we’re all friends, too, so it’s fairly chill here. Ha.

Style. What is style? LOL. I’m with you. All comfy all the time, whenever possible. I basically live in dressings and long shirts / tunics / dresses (comfy ones).
My iPhone needs updating too. It’s out of room all the time. Irritating!

That should say LEGGINGS, not DRESSINGS! HAAAA.

Hahaha- I love it. I’d be veryyy out of place in a dress at work, even a casual one. It’s mostly jeans, t-shirts, and hoodies for me 🙂 I’m so so so glad we got me a new phone. i LOVE it.

Girl, I know for a fact my style has not changed one bit since high school. I still wear a lot of black pieces, plain darker colors and all the stripes. I actually have a pair of Adidas Rock Star shoes that used to be called Shell Toed in high school. These ones are rose gold, in high school I had silver pair and a navy striped pair. You stick with what works 🙂 I have been meaning to update my blog some, but I don’t even have time to fix my gmail account that I leave blogger comments with because apparently I am a no reply blogger. Even though I never had been before and I haven’t changed anything. Gotta love technology.

Hahaha. Black pieces make up the majority of my closet 🙂 I’ve finally started adding just a little color. Mostly I have colorful shoes, lol.
I make no money off my blog so the urgency to change stuff just isn’t there sometimes. Lol

I’ve always been one to choose comfort over style. I never understand why anyone would want to be uncomfortable! And I’m so glad you have someone else working with you now! It’s always nice to have another person to bounce ideas off of and to chat with.

I’m so picky about the heels I buy for that exact reason. I know they won’t be comfy for +6 or 8 hours, but I need them to not hurt my feet immediately. Lol
I’m grateful that our office dynamic has stayed relatively the same 🙂

Out of all the amazing things you’ve said in this post, can we just dwell on the “cutoff shorts (that don’t reveal my buttcheeks)”?! I legit LAUGHED OUT LOUDDD at that. You are so funny!! And I just got a pair of real vans for the first time ever and I feel like a real rebel. Vans 4 Life 😉

Oh man… When I see bottom-cheek in some cutoff shorts I just roll my eyes. Hahahaha. I mean, I am all for wearing what’s comfortable to you… but how is that comfortable?? Hahaha. It’s definitely not my kind of comfort 😉 Maaaaaaybe at a country concert, put probably not. Lol
Yay!! I hope you’re enjoying your Vans!!

My style hasn’t changed much over the years and I’m WAY older than you. I like what I like and I also enjoy being comfortable. Plus I work at home and my dogs give zero fucks if I wear the same thing every day.
I like to believe that female celebrities have always been supportive of each other but now, with social media and in light of #metoo, they’re just more vocal and prominent rather than letting the tabloids exploit perceived or manufactured “rivalries”

I go from laid back at work (jeans and a t-shirt) to waaaaaaaaay laid all the way back at home (sweatpants and oversized hoodie) at home at the end of the day. Lol
I like your outlook on female behavior in Hollywood.

It’s always great when coworkers mesh really well. Some offices can be terrible environments! We’ve hired someone new as well, so I’m really hoping it works out and she falls right into our office vibe. It’s important because we all work in one giant room so you can’t get away from crazy!
I totally understand about tweaking the blog too. I think we all feel like it’s never quite right!

I recently replaced my phone–which was the cheapest Samsung phone available here when I bought it, and generally needed to be restarted/have the battery taken out of it every day because it liked to freeze up and stop working on a regular basis–and yep, it’s a first world problem but it’s pretty fun to have a phone that works and can even open Instagram. Mind-blowing.

It’s definitely a first world problem but it brings me such joy to have apps open quickly and things load faster and my camera turn on right when I need it- not 30 seconds too late. LOL! I’m glad you’re experiencing that new phone euphoria, too! Haha!

ohhh i hadn’t heard that song before and now i’m listening to it on repeat, thanks for sharing! i’m also SO happy you are loving having another coworker in the office! that’s a huge part that i miss about not being in a traditional office setting because it is SO helpful to bounce ideas off someone else (of course, when ravery is here, i can)!

I think it’s catchy 🙂 I heard it on my way to work twice one week and both days it lifted my spirits.
I think having another person in the office has been helpful professional and maritally. K and I can’t talk about personal stuff at work (well we can, but only to an extent and not for very long) which has been helpful. It’s nice to go home to a different environment now, verses being in the same one all day long.
