IMUO vol. 2

Waaay back in September 2016 I wrote a post about my unpopular opinions. I stand by everything I wrote except I now occasionally use “live your best life” jokingly and I watch basketball (the Cavs) with my husband. Anyway, I’m back again with more.

I don’t like The Avengers.
It’s not that I don’t like them as much as I just don’t have time to watch it all. I love Guardians of the Galaxy and X-Men, but I’ve only seen Iron Man and Captain America as far as “avengers” go. After this last movie am I going to be totally lost when the next X-Men or GotG movie comes out?! Why do we have to combine them all?? It just seems like a lot to keep on top of…

I hate the term “Girl Boss.”
I’m totally ok with making things more feminine if that’s your style (pink jerseys, lace on tool belts, etc.). It’s not my style, but all kinds of kinds, right? However, if you’re a female in a management role or a female business owner then you’re just a BOSS. It’s not a man’s phrase because it’s not a man’s world. It’s your world and you’re running it. Be a BOSS.
(Turns out Nadine mentioned hating this phrase in the comments of my last IMUO post!)

I don’t understand the Cardi B craze.
This might not be unpopular. She may not be a hit with people over the age of 25. I don’t know. Either way, I can’t get into her. I’m not a big rap fan anyway so I think this is pretty normal for me. She just seems like the next big thing and I’m a little clueless and uninterested.

I love Instagram Stories.
Man… I waste SO much time with IG stories. I love seeing pictures or watching people talk about their day or an experience. I don’t mind boomerangs or food pics or videos. Two things I don’t like: videos of concerts and videos of super loud noises. Other than that, I’m entertained for hours by these clips.

I live for rainy days.
You know how some people wait and wait for the sun to come out and make comments like, “What’s that thing?” whenever it finally does? That’s how I feel about rain and overcast days. There’s just something extra cozy about a dreary day. In the same breath…

I STILL hate summer.
I know we’ve been waiting 17 years for the snow to stop and the sun to show herself, but I’m over it now. I opened my windows for a hot second and I shed my coat for a few days. I’m ready for the leaves to change & the temperature to drop. Sorry not sorry, guys. I just looove fall & winter.

I’ll relent just a bit. There are parts of warm weather that I enjoy- evening walks with the dogs, driving with the windows down, ice cream shops being open… but after about a month of all that I’m ready for fall 😉

What are some of your unpopular opinions? I won’t judge you 😉

I TOTALLY agree with you on Avengers, the term ‘girl boss’, and instastories. Word on the Instagram street is that stories are going to be ‘the next big thing.’

Hahahaha! I feel like I had a million floating around in my brain, then I went to write this and was like, “What did I want to say…?” That’s how it always goes for me. Ha.

  3. I was with you all the way until the last one! Summer is my fav.
But, yet! The Avengers are overdone at this point! There are a gazillion movies. I know they just keep making them because they are big money makers. Guardians of the Galaxy was fun though, I do like that one.
Girl Boss should just be Boss! I think I’m too old to get Cardi B either. And Instastories are awesome! I reminds me of what social media used to be. People tend to post only their best pictures or some sort of curated theme. But what I’m really interested in is the day to day stuff! (Concert videos are so annoying though!)

I know lots of people love summer- especially after the winter we all suffered through. Lol
Marvel is nuts for The Avengers. I’m irritated that GotG is in it. I love Guardians but I’m not willing to stay caught up on everything through the Avengers movies. *shrug*
I hadn’t thought about IG stories like that but you’re right! People are more raw and in-the-moment and willing to share somewhat unflattering or embarrassing parts of life through stories!

  4. I have still not heard one Cardi B song. I might like her, I just don’t listen much to recent music… because I’m 100. 🙂 I hate the term “girl boss”, too. Just be a BOSS! I’m with you on summer as well. Unless I’m in the pool, it’s too much. I don’t like sweating when I’m in my work clothes. Ha!

If we had a pool I might looove summer. I just kind of hate heat, but also hate staying inside under the a/c. I like fall because it’s way more enjoyable to be outside 🙂

Hahahaha. I *really* hate when I go to watch an IG story and it’s a loud concert OR a dog barking right into the camera. (I didn’t include that though because I’ve been guilty of posting that in the past…)

Hahahahahaha- truth bomb just sounds so juvenile 🙂 I don’t ever use those words although I’ve definitely heard them in so. many. conversations. Ha.

My family part of the summer is probably just being able to swim. Otherwise, fall is totally my favorite. I’ve never really thought about the term Girl Boss before (I don’t use it) but you’re so right. Seriously, if you’re a boss, you’re a boss. Doesn’t matter about sex or gender!

I love these posts. I keep thinking of random unpopular opinions I have so I should share them someday.

  12. I actually was a big fan of the word Girl Boss and have somewhat mixed feelings about it now. I completely understand the hate because it’s get overused so freaking much and agree with you wholeheartedly that women should just be bosses. No need to add the Girl but … a part of me remembers that so many females who did become “bosses” did it by acting like men. And for me, being about 15 years older than you, it’s was a potent reminder that the inherent traits we have as women make us good bosses. We don’t have to cast them aside to be a boss. But I wouldn’t mind if that phrase joined the dodo bird in extinction either.

I’m freaking over the Avengers and superhero movies in general, except for Black Panther and Guardians of the Galaxy. You’ll be fine with X-Men because they are not a part of the Marvel machine (Marvel owns the comics rights to X-Men but Sony owns the movies rights which is why Wolverine isn’t an Avenger in the movies).

Rainy days seem to demand that you grab a coffee or tea, a favorite book and snuggle with your fur baby while you read so I don’t mind them. What I dislike, though, is cloudy days that don’t produce rain and just make me feel glum.

I like Summer more than Winter but it’s my 3rd favorite season. I often feel like I’m Goldilocks when it comes to weather. And I also wrote a novel for a comment because I love this idea and plan to borrow it! 😀

I don’t have that experience with “girl boss” but I 100% see your point. It’s frustrating (and wrong) to have to put aside female tendencies and intuition to climb the corporate ladder. (I do have experience with that, UGH.) Doing it “our way” is definitely something to be embraced and celebrated. Thank you for that insight! I’d have never thought about the term that way!
Good to know about X-Men. I skip some of the Wolverine ones because they’re just SO violent, but I’m a fan of the collective X-Men films. I just goggled and read about what happens in Infinity War and I’m TICKED. I wish Guardian weren’t included in any of that. I’m going to be very upset if their 3rd movie is all tainted and messed up by the Avengers film…
I don’t like cloudy days that just left humidity SIT in the air. Hate that. I much prefer the rain 🙂
      Borrow away!!!

  14. I mind Lady Boss less than Girl Boss. Acknowledge the feminine if you want but use Woman or Lady not Girl. It infantilizes us. Not down with it.

I love living my best life though LOL

I used to HATE the word “woman.” I just didn’t think it was an attractive word, lol. It had NOTHING to do with the meaning or anything. I used to say “lady” all the time. I’m definitely past that now, though.

I don’t mind the term/word girl but I get what you mean. When it’s used as a way to minimize the woman or her achievements or feelings it’s infuriating.

I wish I liked summer. I try but… the heat and the bugs and the sunburn and the sweat. Ugh. My con list is way longer than my pros. Lol

We are going into winter now and I’ve been super envious of everyone posting about their summer! My Mom loves winter so she will agree with you on this!

My unpopular opinion is I don’t enjoy Greys Anatomy and found Meredith annoying so I stopped watching years ago.

You will not find judgement here on the GA front. I started watching it a few seasons in, then quit a few years later. I don’t really like television dramas and I get SO frustrated when miscommunication causes relationship bs or friendship troubles. Like, JUST TALK IT OUT. Hahahaha. Dramas and I don’t jive well.

I still hate girl boss lol. I am not in to the Avengers either. I have no clue who Cardi B is. (I am old, and well aware of it lol) And living in the south, summer is my least favorite season. It is just toooooo freakkkkking HOTTTTTTT. And humid. Ugh the humidity. I die!

  17. I hate the term “girl boss” as well. In general I am sensitive/annoyed how women are referred to as girls no matter how old we are. Also I have never gotten into Avengers and I don’t even know who Cardi B is… Haha! I do disagree with you on IG Stories – Actually I just decided to leave IG completely (again). And I do love summer. Although I know I would feel differently if I lived in a super hot and/or humid climate (which was the case when I lived in Florida).

Yeah, I understand that. I’m guilty of using the term girl. Not to infantize anyone, but just because the word doesn’t bother me like it does others. I try to catch and correct myself when I can, though.
I’m jealous of your break with IG. I’d like to quit all social media sometimes… I REALLY want to leave Facebook, but I haven’t. I don’t mind IG so much. I feel like my community there is pretty amusing and supportive (for now anyway).
Ohio gets over 100 degrees in summer and drops below 0 in winter. It’s a fairly extreme state sometimes, hahaha.

Some people brought up good points about “girl boss.” I definitely agree and understand the pride in being a female boss/achieving a top spot in a company while acting feminine and “girly.” (As opposed to acting like a man, limiting one’s emotional response, etc.) I can 100% understand how a woman would take pride in that, especially after being in the workforce for the last 15 or 30 years. I think frivolous words just exhaust me sometimes and girl boss seems wordy and over the top for what can be described as just BOSS. Hahaha.
