Books I Want To Read – Summer 2019

I am someone who likes to follow a basic outline. I don’t force myself to stick to it, but I do better when there’s a challenge or plan in place. Thus, a summer reading list. The first time I did this I SLAYED.  Last year I didn’t do quite as well. We’ll see how summer 2019 goes…

Erin’s 10.0 Book Challenge ends today & I didn’t get through all my books, but I’m happy with the progress I made. Like I said, with that challenge over I’m needing a new list to follow. Some of these have been on my tbr list for years and some are newbies.

Wundersmith: The Calling of Morrigan Crow (Jessica Townsend)
I really loved the first book in the series and I’m excited to see what happens next for Morrigan in Nevermoor. (This is a middle grade book but still SO good and engrossing.)

The Other Lady Vanishes (Amanda Quick)
Again, I enjoyed the first one and I thought it’d be fun to continue the series. Plus, I already have the third one on my Kindle.

Seduction: Sex, Lies, and Stardom in Howard Hughes’s Hollywood (Karina Longworth)
I’ve gushed about the podcast You Must Remember This multiple times on my blog. (Lindsay originally introduced me to it.) This is a book by the host which focuses even more on the (nonfiction) people and events in old Hollywood.

Archenemies (Marissa Meyer)
I’m not in love with this series, but I’m a fan of Marissa Meyer so I’m willing to dive into book 2. Plus, I already own it so I might as well read it.

Little Fires Everywhere (Celeste Ng)
This book has been on my tbr list since its release. Hoping to get to it.

The Great Alone (Kristin Hannah) OR Where the Crawdads Sing (Delia Owens)
There’s a chance I’ll read both, but I don’t read a lot from this genre so I don’t want to commit to both books and then burn myself out. We’ll see which grabs my interest first and/or which I can get from the library fastest. Ha.

The Matrimonial Advertisement (Mimi Matthews)
This author write super clean historical romance. I have this one on my Kindle already so it seems like a quick, easy, and entertaining read for the summer.

One Dark Throne (Kendare Blake)
Again, I started this series and never continued. I really enjoyed the first book so I’m hoping to continue the story asap. I might have to reread the first book. I kind of forget the story.

A Court of Thorns And Roses (Sarah J. Maas)
Third times a charm, right? I own this book so there’s nothing stopping me (except me).

Right now I’m in the middle of The Lost World. Also, I’m working my way through the Saga graphic novels. I have the first three books on my list out from the library. Unfortunately, my library is closing on May 6 (until June) for renovations so I’m not sure if I’ll still be able to reserve books.

I’m late to the game with some of these books. I know a few of them are in a series and I might get sucked into the series and abandon my list completely. These are just literary risks I’m going to have to take… 😉

  1. I loved the first Nevermoor book and I really want to read books 2 but I also really need to read the books that are actually on my shelf (and in some cases have been for At least a year!)

Yeah… I struggle with that balance, too. I own three of those books and I know those three will get pushed to the end of the list because “I can read them any time.”

  2. Little Flies Everywhere has been on my list. I love lighter reads for the Summer 🙂 Becoming by Michelle Obama is one on my list for Summer!

  6. I love that you do this! I am the opposite when it comes to books though. Basically I’m like Mary Poppins’ wards. When I “have” to read them, I don’t wanna. 😀 I still need to read Nevermoor. I hoped maybe this month but nope. But soon! And like you, I read a first book in a series and love it but then wait so long to read book two that I have to go back and reread the first one. I don’t mind rereading but at the same time, it kind of sucks too because I could have read another book in its place, ya know? Good luck with your list!

I always loved getting reading lists during school. It was like a challenge & I work best when challenged 😉 Haha! I try not to reread stuff but my memory is spotty with the Dark Throne series. Sigh.

Reading lists are fun! I still need to read Nevermoor, but I’ve heard great things, so I’m glad you liked it too. I hope the second one is just as awesome! I haven’t read the Dark Throne series, but I’ve always been curious.

I’m definitely more motivated to read with a list. I have Wundersmith out from the library right now but I’m in a reading rut. UGH. Lol

    yay Wundersmith!!! SO GOOD
I own all 3 Court books and haven’t read them. I kept saying I would read them once I finished her other series, and I finished that in December lol. but, hopefully sometime this year.
bummer about your library! my two local ones closed (one for good and one for renovations) so i have to drive far away to pick up actual books but still use online just fine. call them and ask? but yay Saga!!

I can still get holds placed before the closing. Maybe I can get holds during the renovations? I’m not sure. I shouldn’t complain because they’re putting in a drive thru window and millions of dollars in renovations, I think. It’s going to be SO nice come June!
