Coffee Talk

Hello, friends.

I’m linking up with Kristen today (What’s New With You?) for a casual, relaxing coffee date.

If we were sipping our coffee (while sitting 6 feet apart still, of course)… I would admit that I love having two dogs that could not care less about storms. Lylee was a p s y c h o when it came to thunder and lightning. I used to love storms until she made me hate them. Now I love them again.

As we nibbled on scones it would remind me to tell you… M is starting baby-led weaning! She’s 6 months old today (hoooooow!?) and that means we can safely start on soft solids since she’s a) 6 months, b)interested in food and c) sitting up on her own. I am SO excited. We’ve already given her a few things and she loves it.

Like everyone else under lock down… I would share that I gave my closet a little revamp. I bought a few drawers for my socks (to free up the one in the dresser) and I purchased a shoe cubby. I LOVE how it looks in there now. We’re going to tackle K’s side next. And all the clothes we never wear.

As we were draining our mugs I would ask how you’re handling life lately… It seems like we’re existing in this Limbo between “normal” and quarantine life. Mix in the violence and protests… and I will openly admit that I’m not sleeping well. I feel stressed and out of control, then guilty because I KNOW I have more control and comfort in my life than many, especially many people of color right now.

I think it’s just a stressful time in our world. I hope you’re doing alright ♥

Let’s Have Coffee

Good morning. Let’s pretend M is napping and my cup of coffee is still warm ☺️

Is your cup full? It’s a high of 52º today so maybe you’d prefer something iced. This is Ohio, though, so we’re still kicking the day off with freezing temps.

If we were having coffee I’d ask about your upcoming travel plans. We’re supposed to fly to Dallas this month and bring M along but… I’m starting to buy into the whole coronavirus frenzy on top of flu season crude. She was fine during our San Antonio trip so I might be overthinking it. I don’t know… Jury’s still out.

If we were having coffee I’d keep on the travel topic and see what summer plans you have! We have been throwing around the idea of renting a beach house with my family & K’s family (at least his parents). We haven’t pulled the trigger on any of that yet. My hang up is spending money… we should really be saving money right now.

If we were having coffee I’d ask how your 2020 budget is going. My spending was so controlled during my maternity leave- it was great! Now that I’m back to work and out of the house more it’s been awful. For Lent I actually gave up frivolous spending. All groceries (except dog food & formula) must come from Aldi. No random purchases.

If we were having coffee I’d ask about your Easter plans. We always host a meal and I’m so excited for M to experience her first Easter! I mean… let’s be real: she has no idea what Easter is nor does she care that it exists, but I can overindulge in the holidays under the guise of her 😁 I broke my Lent spending freeze to help the Easter Bunny stock her basket (and the pups’). I want her to know Easter isn’t about a bunny & a basket, but I also want her to get a basket and believe in the bunny for a while. Lol

If we were having coffee I’d ask what you gave up for Lent. Or maybe what you took on for Lent. Or maybe you don’t celebrate Lent and you’ve got some spring cleaning chores you’re hoping to tackle. Share with me & we can try to keep one another accountable. Ha.

If we were having coffee chances are M would be starting to stir. You probably have things you need to get to, too. I’d offer you a to-go cup (you can return it on our next date) & send you off with a hug (viruses be damned).

Morning Coffee Talk

Happy April! This is one of my favorite months. I hate spring, but I love April. It’s the end of a busy work season (before the next busy summer season) and it’s a little warmer but not miserably hot and it’s our wedding anniversary month. April is just a happy month in my mind.

(And happy birthday to my mom today!!)

Maybe you’re not feeling it, but hopefully you can find something joyful about today.

Here’s something to smile about- let’s slow down and grab some coffee for a quick chat! I’m actually going to be drinking a smoothie (that I made in my normal blender) but I think you should have a yummy cafe treat!

If we were having coffee I think I’d have to bring up the weather. We had some beautiful sunny 45º-60º days here… and then it DUMPED snow on Sunday. In the meantime, K was on a business trip in California and he got SO BURNT. Eighty degrees without a cloud in the sky.

*Honestly, I was great with the snow. I love the surprise flurries we get in spring.

If we were having coffee I’d tell you that we’re headed to a NASCAR race soon! It’s my favorite sport! I love sitting at the track and feeling the sun and hearing the cars and smelling the tires. We have pit and garage passes (before the race access) and I’m SO excited! NASCAR just feels like summer.

If we were having coffee I’d share Steph’s post from yesterday with you. I 100% agree with her. It’s a matter of changing our behaviors and raising the next generation to smash the boys’ club and make the world good for everyone.

If we were having coffee I’m sure you’d notice that my hair is shorter and purpler. Lol. I did that two weeks ago and I love the purple. The length is a different story. I’m so used to long hair & it’s frustrating that I can’t pull it up as easily as I used to… I’m definitely growing it back out!

If we were having coffee I’d ask how you celebrate anniversaries. Our 6 year wedding anniversary is at the end of the month and we’ve got NOTHING planned. We’ve done everything from dinner out to a weekend trip.

Before we go, if we were having coffee, I’d ask for some good vibes, prayers, thoughts, etc. We have so much going on right now with work and life. It’s exhausting and draining. We need all the happy vibes we can get! I’m happy to return the favor, too 🙂

Your turn! Tell me about the new things in your life! Any weekend trips planned or upcoming celebrations?

10 Things You (Maybe) Don’t Know About Me

After (finally) writing last Thursday’s post, the scribble bug bit. I have a few different topics cooked up but today I’m doing 10 Things You (Maybe) Don’t Know About Me. Blogging is weird and I don’t think I have a bunch of new readers, but this is fun for newer and seasoned readers alike!

|1| I love the color yellow.
I am not super loud when it comes to color and I mostly wear black, grey, and olive, but I have always loved yellow. I once had a yellow car and yellow was one of our wedding colors and I like painting walls yellow.

|2| I have 0 piercings.
Nope, not even my ears.

|3| My first car was a (yellow) Volkswagen Beetle.
I had it for four years and three days. Then I hit some black ice & totaled it. RIP Lenny.

|4| Every single dog/cat K and I have had has been a stray or rescue.
When I was a kid I didn’t know you could get dogs anywhere but the pound/shelter. Bruno, Lylee, Buckeye, & Enzo were rescue dogs. Rascal, Sandy, Melody, Paul, Aladdin, Jafar, Rajah, and Abu were strays. Heidi was from an unplanned litter of pups that some friends had. I will admit there have been hamsters, lizards, birds, fish, and rabbits that were purchased. My extended family all have rescues and strays, too.

|5| Up until I started working with K, I had NO idea what to do with my life.
I love my job now. I want to start a dog sanctuary some day, but besides that I am professionally satisfied.

|6| I don’t put sugar in my coffee.

|7| I played baseball/softball for eight years.
I have retained 0 skills.

|8| I don’t hate the word “moist.”
But I do hate a certain word. It means “turned on” and it rhymes with corny.

SUCH AN UNATTRACTIVE, UNCOMFORTABLE WORD.

|9| I don’t eat duck, lamb, goat, veal, or lobster.
I don’t eat the first four because they’re cute. I don’t eat lobster because of how it’s cooked. I actually love lobster, but I refuse to eat it because of the cooking alive process. Honestly, some day I’d like to cut meat out. I don’t know if I’ll ever get there, though.

|10| I’m convinced I’ve had two ghost encounters.
I was super young when I saw my first one but I have a strong memory of my late great grandpa (whom I’d never met) helping me find an Easter egg at my grandparents’ house. When I saw the second ghost/spirit, my brother was with me. He will confirm the story. It was NYE and the ghost essentially warned us about an oncoming car that had its lights off. It kept us from getting hit and probably saved our lives. Freaky, I know.

And that’s 10! Those were kind of challenging to come up with. If you’ve been around a while, you might have heard some of those facts. If not, which surprised you the most? Have you ever seen a ghost? What word do you hate? Is there a meat that you won’t eat?

A Crisp Morning Coffee Talk

I show up for our coffee dates about every 2 months it seems. I’m a little late with this one. Oops!

Linking up with Kristen for What’s New With You? today.

If we were sitting down for coffee I’d have to lament about the end of my favorite month. October kicks off the best quarter of the year (in my opinion) and it’s always bittersweet to say goodbye to the month. But I’m excited that the holidays are around the corner!

If we were having coffee I’d admit that I’m still recovering from our quick 5 day trip to Daufuskie Island, SC. My best friend & I drove through the night (Wednesday) to surprise our other best friend, who was on vacation with her girlfriend. We had been planning it for months and the surprise was perfect. Our time on the island was so relaxing. Here’s a link to the super quick video of the surprise: https://splice.gopro.com/v?id=yPjm4K

While sipping on our pumpkin lattes or maple coffees I’d probably gush about some of my birthday gifts. K got me tickets to see the Columbus orchestra play at a screening of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban 🙂 My mother-in-law spoils me with a week of birthday gifts and some of my absolute favorites this year included this pillow, this skirt, and this wine stopper!

I’d also share about the new underwear I just got! (A little weird, I know, but what better way to end 2018 than cleaning out your delicates drawer and adding some comfy, quality undergarments?) Tommy Johns Underwear reached out to me a few weeks ago and set me up with some ah. may. zing. underwear. So soft and comfortable, dang near invisible, and it stays in place. I got a pair of their Cool Cotten Cheeky, Second Skin Brief, and Air Cheeky. I’m not kidding when I say I love these styles and all three materials!

When draining our adorably fall coffee mugs I’d ask if you’re participating in NaNoWriMo this year. I’ve done it every year, but never to completion. I’d really like to push myself to do it this year… I haven’t decided which novel idea to conquer, though.

Before we pull on our coats and dig for our keys I’d ask about your holiday plans. Are you doing anything fun for Thanksgiving? We have a business trip this month, then we’re spending a little bit of time in Williamsburg on a family vacation. I love historic little villages & I’m super excited. November is kind of crazy for us and I’m hoping for a slower December. How about you?

Sigh. I guess our coffee date would have to come to a close now… I’d head back to work & hopefully you’d head off and do something fun (like an apple orchard or pumpkin patch- fall isn’t over yet!).

Share with me what you’ve been doing this fall & tell me about your early winter plans!
