First and Foremost

Hi! I missed y’all 🙂 Coming back strong with a fun little “firsts” tag that I borrowed from Stephanie! I was driving my parents nuts with all these, “What was my first xyz…?” questions.

What was your first word? My mom thinks it was “Nan.” My dad and his siblings called their grandma (my great-grandma) Nan. According to the story I was told, I tried to call my dad’s mom Nan. Since that was bound to get confusing, I was forced to figure out a different name. Some how the term “Numna” (num-nuh) came about. And that’s what everyone has called my grandma since I could talk. Yay for being grandkid #1!
Do you still talk to your first love?  Not really. We’re Facebook friends and I see him around maybe once a year, but I don’t go out of my way to talk to him.

What was your first alcoholic drink?  Wine coolers. I’d tasted my parents’ beer/wine before, but my first intentional just-for-me drink was a wine cooler.

What was your first job?  My first real collect-a-paycheck job was at Quiznos. And after a month I got fired. Lol

First pet?  Bruno, who was a very good boy.

What was your first car? My darling yellow Volkswagen Beetle. His name was Lenny and I totaled him four years and three days after I got him.

Who was the first person to text you today?  Aubrey! Saying how excited she was for Kayla and I to come hangout in Cleveland with her. (I answered this question last Thurs.)

Who was the first person you thought of this morning? Enzo, because he kicked me in the throat at 2 am.

Who was your first grade teacher?  Mrs. Turner.

Where did you go on your first airplane ride?  My dad’s pretty sure my first plane ride was to Boston. My aunt & uncle lived there at the time and they took me there to meet them.

Who was your first best friend and do you still talk?  I had two best friends growing up, but we were friends because our moms were friends. The first bff I picked for myself was a girl named Lindsey. We still talk. We went to a country superfest last year together.
Lindsey is on the right.

Where was your first sleep over?  Ever? Probably my grandparents’ house. I also remember staying with my aunt and uncle (not the ones in Boston) when I was a kid. They were in their twenties and we’d play Nintendo and Sega way past my bedtime.

What was the first concert you ever went to? A Fallout Boy, Hawthorne Heights, From First to Last, and All American Rejects concert. I was a freshman in high school.

What was your first broken bone?  I snapped my tibia and fibula when I was 7. That hurt a bit.

What was your first piercing?  I’ve never had anything pierced.

What was the first foreign country you’ve gone to?  Switzerland when I was six.

What was the first movie you remember seeing?  I think my parents took me to see The Little Mermaid in theaters, but I looked it up and it came out in ’89… so I don’t know. Air Bud was the first movie I ever cried during.

When was your first detention?  Six grade, I think. I was a good student, but I forgot to do my homework sometimes. I remember getting at least two detentions in middle school for incomplete work. In high school I got caught skipping class and got in-school suspension for two days. Lol. I was a good student, just defiant.

Who was your first roommate?  Kristene. We went to hs together (and elementary & middle school) so when we picked the same college we decided to room together our freshman year.

Kristene is in black. I’m the moron with ORANGE hair. Woof.

What was the first sport you were involved in?  Frickin’ T-ball. Then I went on to do baseball/softball for 8 more years. Woof.

What is the first thing you do when you get home?  Let the pups out, comb through the mail, and then sit on the ground with Ly and E to play with them and snuggle them.

When was your first kiss?  My freshman year of high school, toward the end of the year. It was actually a pretty good one (although K is my favorite person to kiss 😉 lol).

I love that pig picture so much, lol. I think someone in my family made me that costume.

Ok, now you answer some of these! What was your first plane ride or concert? Does anyone get anything other than their ears pierced first?! (Besides nothing at all, lol.)

Random December Thoughts

I haven’t post a collection of random thoughts in a quick minute so …

Well let’s kick this off with a weird one.
Sometimes, while sitting in the bathroom, I think to myself how fortunate females are because we sit down to do our business. I mean, anything we go to the bathroom to accomplish (besides throwing up), can be done in the same position. Meanwhile, if a guy steps into the bathroom to go #1 and he finds that his bowels have other plans, he has to turn around and sit quickly OR shuffle from the urinal to the toilet.
*I asked K if he’s ever had a bathroom experience were a guy at the neighboring urinal quickly changed his mind and stepped into a stall. He says never in his life. I’m skeptical.

I’m unnaturally happy about the newest royal engagement. I feel warm and fuzzy when I think about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. I don’t know them, I don’t keep close tabs on the family, I don’t have a crazy crush on the prince- I just love that they look so happy and healthy.

Do you say “bless me” when you sneeze? Because I do and it makes K crazy. He says you can say excuse me (for yourself) or bless you (for others), but bless me is just self-centered. We had a drawn out argument over this at work a few weeks ago… Looking for real feedback here.

A few weekends ago I went to Hocking Hills in southern Ohio with two of my best friends, Enzo, and Kayla’s dog Ernie. We hot tub-ed, hiked, drank too much wine, and just had a really fun time. If you can, take a girls’ trip 🙂 The cabin was only 2 or 3 hours from all of us (we all live in different cities in OH) and we found a weekend to just go. Your trip doesn’t have to be miles and miles away!

My brother and sister-in-law pay attention to my blog and they asked for a Christmas list. So I’m randomly throwing in some things that fall under the “want” category this Christmas…

  • Chunky knit blanket (example)… I don’t care where it comes from. I just like ’em.
  • This book preordered. It doesn’t release until the end of January.
  • A make-up holder and a brush cleaner.
  • A watch. (I don’t know what I want… smallish and minimalist, but quirky.)
  • This mug. This sweatshirt and this sweatshirt. And either this doormat or this one.
  • This poster. I really want the artwork with Leo’s story from TWW, but I can’t find one I like on etsy 😦

Is that enough stuff, Fred? 😉

Share a random thought with me. (Also, do you say “bless me”???)

Confessions

Don’t worry, nothing too deep here 😉

Apparently I’m a hypocrite. I word vomited about having a mental diet and avoiding dramatic/violent/etc. television… then I pushed The Tudors on people. It’s about Henry VIII who had 6 wives (of which he killed 2, possibly 3), and he completely flip-flopped on religion a million times (and killed heretics with each change), and it was on Showtime. Obviously it’s not G rated. Oh well. We like what we like, right?

A teeny tiny part of me is sad to see summer go. I felt like we had a pretty mild one in Ohio. Plenty of humidity, but the temperatures were fairly enjoyable. This doesn’t change my opinion on fall’s arrival, though.

I’ve mentioned our house selling woes here so I’ll confess that we’re seeing progress right now. I know we should/could be celebrating, but we got burned so hard last time so I’m waiting to pop the bubbly until we sign the closing papers. Ha.

I could drink the new Starbucks Horchata Almondmilk Frappuccino all day, every day. I rarely get their blended drinks but holy cow, Batman. Cinnamon and caramel and pure deliciousness.

I go through waves of reading. I’ll finish 3 books within days (or hours) of each other, then start three more, then fall into a lull for a while. I’m in a lull right now but also in the middle of HP & the SS and The Moon-Spinners (and Coraline, which is less than 200 pages & I’ve been “reading” it for 3 months). I’m such a book loser. Hahaha.

I’ve been a crying mess lately over Texas. Every time I see someone carrying humans out of danger or boats filled with stray dogs I just 100% lose it. Sometimes humans are amazing. We do a lot of business in Texas and it just makes me so sad that we can’t be there physically to help (or take in a million dogs).

Sidenote: I’m a big believe in backing companies/people who do good. Pay attention to who does what in the wake of this tragedy and go forward spending your time, money, attention on those things. From what I’ve seen online, Anheuser-Busch canned and sent water for Texas victims, Chip and Joanna Gaines are selling shirts through the end of Sept. with 100% of their proceeds going to victims, and Miranda Lambert’s MuttNation Foundation took 72 displace dogs out of harms way. Sometimes humans are very, very good.

I believe that 2000s pop punk/alternative/rock is the best era of music. How’s that for a confession? My inner (former) emo kid enjoys listening to playlists on Spotify from my youth. And then I get the urge to put another layer of eyeliner on 😉

Every time we ship a product to a city where a blogger lives, I immediately want to reach out and tell them. Ha. But I know they wouldn’t actually care. Hahaha.

Alright. I’m done 🙂 Share a confession with me!

Have a happy weekend! We’re almost there!

Ramblings of Sorts

I don’t have anything worthwhile to say today. (How’s that for a lead-in?)

So here are some random thoughts.

For those in Texas, human and critter, know that my heart and prayers and donations are with you ❤︎
I can’t explain how proud and hopeful I feel when I see the stories of people taking their boats & large trucks into affected areas and helping people out of buildings. That is what makes humanity wonderful and keeps our country united and strong.

In a different breath, I think this president is growing increasingly dangerous. His small steps to reverse policy and pardon dirt bags and alter law enforcement/military power is extremely alarming. Don’t let these things go unnoticed. Be aware of what your government is doing before it’s no longer your government…
I believe both sides of the aisle should be fired up.

And now some lighter things to get us through the rest of the week…

This popped up on my FB yesterday:

Sorry, but there’s no way to decrease your chance of death/dying. It’s 100% guaranteed.

Oll's

In honor of yesterday being 8 years since I moved into my first dorm at college. Woof.

I’ve seen this before and for some reason it sends me into a fit of giggles.

(The original post had a dated and offensive term so I edited it. Ha.)

A Tuesday Reminder: In an effort to protect our brains in this crazy world, if you’re like me and you still have a Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc. that you scroll through multiple times a day then I suggest taking time to really go through and unfollow/unlike/unfriend the folks or accounts that bring you down or upset you. If it’s differing or hurtful opinions or a perfect manicured life or gorgeous vacations once a month or whatever… unfollow them because you don’t owe anyone a follow or Facebook friendship. If it’s affecting your mood then take some action.  It’ll make you feel better to be free of weird social media obligations, lol.

Alright. This was a weird post. Happy Tuesday ❤︎

Things I’m Thinking About

It’s Labor Day, yo! Happy Labor Day! (Well, to the US folk…)

Since it’s a holiday I get today off from work.
When my brain’s not busy doing work/daily routine stuff it’s busy thinking about random stuff…

My local yoga studio is offering a 30 day yoga challenge starting Sept. 12th. For $60 you can sign up to take a yoga class every day for a month. It’s an amazing deal, but only if you actually go to class. Their classes are held any time between 5:30 am and 7:30 pm. This is their second time offering this challenge and I’m so tempted but sooo doubtful (of myself, ha).

Chelsea had her baby and I am SO excited for her & Ryan!! Here’s a pic of the new family  ❤︎

On Saturday I’m starting a new volunteer opportunity. I’m super pumped about it and I plan to blog about it soon. Obviously it has to do with animals 🙂

My grey hair is coming back with a vengeance. Good thing I have a hair appt. on Thursday.

I’m in a book rut- I’m currently just reading one book and I don’t care about it. I need to start a good one soon…

On Saturday, all by 10 o’clock am, I made the bed, folded laundry, enjoyed a doughnut and cup of tea, finished the book I was reading (no, not the one I just complained about), and took the dogs on a long walk. I felt pretty dang accomplished and adult-ed.

I think I kicked my caffeine habit a few months ago, but now it’s back. Dagnabbit.

My baby brother & new sister were in town this weekend & I’m so glad I got to spend ample time with them!

In college we didn’t get Labor Day off and I was cheesed about it every year, but as a graduate I totally get it. I hadn’t really labored yet- I didn’t deserve the day. (Haha, I’m kind of kidding. I’m still irked we didn’t get the day off.) Whatev, guys. I have the day off today so I’m letting bygones be bygones.

Short and sweet and random. Go swim in a pool or crash a BBQ once you’re done here 🙂

summer swim

Today is the last day I’m allowing “summer” to be a part of my vocabulary until 2017.
Byeeeeee, Summer!
