Goals on Goals on Goals

Hi ya! We’re tackling three things in this post today:

  • 2017 goals check in
  • Winter goals recap
  • Spring goals reveal

2017 “Resolutions”

(Original post here.)

Be Healthy.
(As in eat better & exercise.) Ehh… not doing so hot here. We’re eating at home more often, but exercise has been a complete no-go.

Feel Less Guilty About Downtime.
(Less guilt when lounging/reading/unwinding.) I think I’m getting better here. We’ve be so busy all year so I can’t quite get a handle on the balance of responsibilities vs. relaxation.

(Last year I read 25 books. This year I’m aiming for 40.) According to Goodreads I’ve read 9 books this year and I’m two ahead of schedule. Cool!

Become a Morning Person.
(Less snooze button and rushing, more consistency and chill.) HA. No. Still working on it. I just love sleeping (in).

Get on Schedule.
(As in meal planning, cleaning, dog maintenance, etc.) I’ve been great about a meal and blog schedule. Now it’s time to focus on cleaning and home maintenance.

Winter Goals

(The original list appears here in this monstrous post.)

  • Make a meal planning journal and, like, actually do it
We’ve been REALLY good about meal planning! Every once in a while I skip a day or we opt for take out, but so far I’ve been making lists and planning meals each and every week!
  • Wash all window treatments & cushion slips
    Partially done… Whoops.
  • Write thank you notes for Christmas gifts
  • Get Lylee on a walk schedule again
  • Clean the junk out of the basement
  • Hire someone to come in and clean the carpets

So overall I did pretty terrible with the seasonal goals. Ha. I’ll be rolling most of these over into spring I guess…

Spring Goals

  • Wash cushion slips
  • Scrub grease build-up off cabinets
  • Replace/fix water heater
  • Get Ly on a walk schedule again
  • Clean junk out of basement
  • Hire someone to come & clean the carpets
  • Finish 3 year scrapbook
  • Order pics for year 4

These are all doable AND borderline necessary. So… here’s to hoping I get them crossed off!

Spring Cleaning 2.0 RECAP

First of all: Happy 29th Anniversary, Mom & Dad ❤︎

Ok, on to my spring goals… Back in March I estimated that I’d complete 80% of my list. Turns out, I didn’t. Here’s what got done:

  • Condense three closets into two and donate/store clothes (I combined some of K’s clothes into my closet and freed one up!)
  • Finish Year 2 scrapbook
  • Order pictures for Year 3 scrapbook (to be done after April 27th)
  • Scrub greasy build-up off kitchen cabinets
  • Landscape front yard
    • This didn’t happen, but we did purchase a grill and patio furniture for the backyard!
  • Wash dog harnesses, leashes, beds, and blankets
  • Re-organize Pinterest boards (Delete doubles and got rid of the useless pins.)
  • Figure out what to do (decor-wise) in stairwell (Honestly, it still needs something… but we at least made some progress.)
  • Paint the front door and replace house numbers
  • Decide what to do with finished basement area…  (I think we pretty much decided on a drum room.)

So there you have it, 60% of the tasks completed. More than half, so I feel alright.

I’ll be totally honest with you guys: I finished my Year 2 scrapbook right before I posted my list in the spring. Is that technically cheating? Oh well. I clearly needed to cheat a little. That said, I finished up two of these things this past weekend. Crunch time is a good time for me. Ha.

Having this list reminded me of the projects I wanted to accomplish these last few weeks. Keeping to-do lists on the blog holds me accountable (at least in my head). That said, here’s a shorter Summer To-Do List; deadline is the first day of autumn (❤︎❤︎❤︎), Sept. 22.

  • Paint front door & replace house numbers
  • Build small deck in backyard
  • Scrub greasy build-up off kitchen cabinets
  • Order Year 3 Photos & start scrapbook
  • Wash couch cushion slips & dust fans/blinds/neglected places

My summer list is shorter because we’ve got some vacations and weddings. What are you hoping to accomplish this summer?

Spring Cleaning 2.0

Roughly a year ago I made a post entitled Spring Cleaning. Then in June I followed it up with this post and admitted to accomplishing roughly 47% of my goals.  That’s a failing grade, my friends.

So let’s give this whole Spring Cleaning thing another shot.

  • Condense three closets into two and donate/store clothes
  • Finish Year 2 scrapbook
  • Order pictures for Year 3 scrapbook (to be done after April 27th)
  • Scrub greasy build-up off kitchen cabinets
  • Landscape front yard (har har har)
  • Wash dog harnesses, leashes, beds, and blankets*
  • Re-organize Pinterest boards
  • Figure out what to do (decor-wise) in stairwell
  • Paint the front door and replace house numbers
  • Decide what to do with finished basement area… drum room? library?

For the record, I wash the dog blankets often but I just decided to throw them in with all the other canine accessories.

I ended with an even ten this time so the math would be super easy when I only complete a handful of these tasks. Set your goals low so the disappoint is greater or something like that, right? (Kidding. I have total faith I will accomplish 80-ish%.)

Okie dokie, Smokie. Let’s see how I do…

What big (or small) tasks are you going to accomplish this spring??

I Hate Spring

Hate is a strong word, but spring is my least favorite season and I’m beginning to remember why…

Spring

While I’m grateful to store the snow shovel and bask in the warm-ish weather, I still have some major complaints about this season. Honestly, I’d be good with a week of spring, a week of summer, and then 10+ weeks of fall!

Here’s my beef with April Showers & May Flowers:

Thunderstorms
Honestly, I used to love thunderstorms and I guess I still do, but the tizzy they throw my dog into is exhausting. Yes, we have tried XXX (insert suggestion here) and I really do appreciate the advice, but we have done the Thundercoat, anxiety medication, sleeping pills, covering her crate, etc. and the only thing that calms her is being held- and she still sits there shaking. Also, she’s +65 lbs. When we travel in spring I always worry about the weather at home because of my poor puppy. UGH.

Muddy Paws
I keep my house fairly tidy. I’m not a neat freak and you will definitely find dust or dog hair, but from March to June there’s also the chance of mud. Our dogs go outside and run around in the yard (usually right after a rainy day) and then bring that outside filth inside. Honestly, I don’t care about dirt, but when that dirt is wet I get a little fussy. I love that my mutts have fun in the yard and I’m not that squimish. Will my future children track dirt inside someday? Yes. Will my future children eat dirt? Probably. I just think that my carpets look better without the giant brown paw prints all over them.

Contrary Weather
Seriously, though? Make up your d#*% mind, Ohio. It gets a little better toward summer but March is a crapshoot. (Off topic: Where did that word come from? Now I need to look into it…) We might see snow, we might see sun, we might see a tornado. Whatever, weather. I’m done with you. Layers for days.

Bugs
If I’m being honest, this is my biggest problem with spring. I have found 1 or 2 random bees in our spare bedroom trying to get out the window. I found a creepy-crawly in the office last week. And our bedroom always attracts a few ladybugs. Like, WHERE THE HELL DO THEY COME FROM? I hate bugs. Hate hate hate. I’ll play in the mud, hold a snake, catch a bat… but I flippin’ hate bugs. Ugh, I’m already over it.

Humidity
Honestly, I shouldn’t complain about this one because the static electricity in our house this winter was torturous. I just hate how the humidity brings out the smell in things (am I the only one that notices this?) and makes everything feel sticky. Ick.

Ok, that’s it. I’m done complaining for a while. I love that we get to experience all the season in Ohio- I just prefer the colder ones.

(According to the internet, crapshoot is “craps shoot” which comes from the chance game of Craps, which involves throwing the dice without being able to predict the outcome.)

What’s your favorite season? More importantly, what’s your least favorite season? Do you enjoy thunderstorms?

Spring Cleaning

Happy Spring!

This post is a week late, but I’m just channeling the procrastination that will probably be fairly present all through spring. Plus, the weather gods haven’t acknowledged spring yet, so why should I?

I am a crazy-organized human being, but sometimes I need a list to keep me accountable. (Actually, I always have some sort of list keeping me accountable. Read about my “problem” here…)
Here are the chores I’d like to accomplish by the First Day of Summer!

– Clean out all 3 closets and donate clothes to local church (yeah, three closest… two belong to K)
– Organize craft room and finish almost-done scrapbooks
– Start & finish “Year 2” scrapbook
– Scrub the greasy build-up off kitchen cabinets and decor
– Wash dog harnesses/leashes and replace Lylee’s harness
– Buy duvet cover and bed skirt for new bed
– Organize Pinterest boards
– Landscape the house/get out of the flood zone
– Paint the spare bedroom
– Finish the basement bathroom
– Finish decorating the dining room
– Figure out photo collage for stairwell
– Build a firepit and purchase patio furniture
– Throw out old/dried up pens, glue, art supplies, office stuff
– Shred all the random grocery bags of bills and documents
Can I accomplish all this by June 21st? I’m not sure, but we’ll revisit this post then and see how much I’ve done! (And I might add to it as I go so SOMETHING at least gets crossed off…)

Do you have Spring Cleaning goals? Do you get distracted by treasures found in the back of your closet? Everyone has that greasy build-up on their kitchen cabinets, right??
