A Shift in Goals

In August 2020 I made a 101 in 1001 list. I actually worked pretty hard on it and put a lot of thought into it. But life has been unpredictable for the past 18 months and my priorities have shifted. Many of the goals aren’t as important or achievable as they once were… So I’m going to press pause on the 101-in-1001 and shift to a 35×35 schedule.

I’m planning to reuse some of my unachieved goals because there are quite a few I’d like to see through… just not all 101. So here is my revised list for my 35×35. I have a few years to accomplish these; I’m currently 31. I think.

  1. Re-read HP 4, 5, 6, & 7 illustrated versions; as available
  2. Stop biting my nails FOR GOOD
  3. Stop scrolling in bed
  4. Create a home master list
  5. Build shade/covering for back deck
  6. Landscape backyard
  7. Change out kitchen dishes & glassware
  8. Finish paying off credit cards
  9. One month shopping ban
  10. Open and contribute to retirement
  11. Perfect the art of pie making
  12. Scrapbook marriage years (6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12)
  13. Celebrate our 10 year anniversary with a fun trip
  14. Find a church home
  15. Adopt a family for Christmas
  16. Visit Disney World with K&M
  17. 4 new NASCAR tracks
  18. See the West Coast
  19. Travel to an all-inclusive again
  20. Take M to Williamsburg
  21. Go on a girls’ trip
  22. Visit Nantucket with M
  23. Stick to a gratitude journal every day for a month
  24. Leave 5 inspirational notes for strangers to find
  25. Write a letter to 40-year-old-me
  26. Go white water rafting
  27. Visit a National Park
  28. Meet a blog friend in person
  29. Leave a 100% tip for good service
  30. Finish our wedding book
  31. Invite neighbors for dinner
  32. Plan/host a block party
  33. Paint a picture
  34. Take photos of the same location through all 4 seasons
  35. Spot a shooting star

Some of these are big, some are not. Even with the ‘demic going on, I think I can achieve many of these. You can find this list under the tab at the top of the page (35 x 35).

Any big goals you’re working on this year (or in the next 4)?

Fall & Winter Goals 2021

The best quarter of the year is fast approaching. My heart sings during October through December. The weather cools, our insane workload becomes 10% less insane, and the best holidays ever reside in these months. Not to mention my birthday, M’s birthday, and the first snowfall of the year ❄️

While fall does not *officially* begin until the 22nd and my Q2 goals were severely neglected, I thought we might take a moment to look over some 4th Quarter goals and talk about our plans for the rest of 2021!

So… What happened?

Lol… I made a few Q2 goals but apparently I blacked out in July & August and only lived to survive. As far as my goals went, I accomplished none (read 10 more books, leave two notes, read a classic, ride bike for a week, scrapbook year 6). At least I’m consistent.

I read, but not 10 books. And I started scrapbooking year 6, but I’m not done. I’m going to count those as mini-wins, though, because this is my blog and I can do what I want.

Alright… Moving on…

Fall (Q4) Goals

  • Read 20 books total for the year (which is 7 more books)
  • Finish Year 6 scrapbook
  • Mins Challenge
  • Take a family vacation
  • Landscape the fire pit area in our backyard
  • Pick out pumpkins with M
  • Host our Halloween party
  • Celebrate M’s 2nd bday
  • Get our Christmas tree
  • Shop for 75% of gifts before Thanksgiving
  • Decorate the house
  • Host Christmas
  • Slow down and enjoy time with my family

Will these things happen? Time will tell. Although a few of them are guaranteed.

My 101 in 1001

Ok, so I’ve made a little progress here! I’m crossing off “make a new friend” (because I did!) & go to the dentist. I’ve also been good about reading, getting the dogs groomed, and making a donation once per month. I’ve changed #54 from “strengthen friendships in moms group” to “create a small group” – and crossing that one off ☺️ I also hosted a garage sale and figured out a morning routine with M (when she cooperates).

I need to start taking a systematic approach to my list. (And maybe editing the goals that no longer apply.) Consider that another fall goal for me to accomplish, ha.

I’m not super goal-oriented at the moment. I try to live in the moment each day but also just kind of survive this world so… maybe I will accomplish some of these and maybe I won’t. I know that’s not the CAN DO attitude all those optimists preach, but it’s my attitude & I own that. *shrug*

What are your plans this fall? Do you agree it’s the best time of the year or are you wrong?

1st Half Goals

Earlier this week I decided today’s post needed to be a recap on my Q1 goals and a share of my Q2 goals. So I went looking for my first quarter goals. And then realized I never made any.

LOL. That seems right.

I actually did make some goals, but I only wrote them down in my planner. I did not share them on the blog. This is only my 18th blog post of the year. As I mentioned on Tuesday, my motivation is low.

It’s actually alarming to me how quickly and vastly my priorities and goals have changed over the last 18 months. Part of that is my small human and part of it is the pandemic and life as we know it hitting the fan. I formed my 101 in 1001 list back in July 2020 but I had no idea what life would be mid- or post-pandemic. (Let’s be real- I still don’t know.)

But I’m still chipping away at it.

I cherry picked a few 1001 Goals to work on in the first quarter. I was aiming to accomplish:

  • read 10 books (I read 5)
  • no fast food (lol, didn’t happen)
  • research taking a sign language course (also didn’t happen)
  • hike with Bristol (check!)
  • mail birthday/anniversary cards (check!)
  • mins game (I planned to do this in Feb., but I didn’t)
  • leave one random note of encouragement (honestly, I don’t frequent many public places)

As you can see, I did not do very much. But I’m ok with that.

During the second quarter I’d like to do the unfinished things from above plus:

  • read 10 more books
  • leave two notes
  • read a classic
  • ride bike for a week (I almost achieved this one… grrrrr.)
  • scrapbook year 6

These are all attainable goals but my level of motivation is the true variable. Time will tell what I accomplish and what I postpone.

Do you have any goals for April/May/June?

Q4 Goals

I’m so glad it’s October. One more quarter left in this weird year. And it’s the best quarter!

I wanted to share how I did with 3rd Quarter goals (spoiler alert: not awesome) and share my plan for the next three months.

Q3 Goals

  • Finish Year 5 scrapbook
  • Read 3 books each month
  • Drink 2 glasses of water per day
  • Visit dermatologist for hands/skin
  • Start planning Halloween party & M’s first birthday! (I started a guest list at least…)
  • Get the pups groomed (I made appointments for October!)

I did very MEH on these goals. I definitely didn’t drink two glasses of water a day (I know, I know…) and I didn’t read three books a month. I scheduled the dog grooming so I’m counting that one as a win. Lol

Q4 Goals

I’m incorporating my 101 in 1001 list into my goals so I actively work on them…

  • Vote
  • Hike with Bristol
  • Hang HP Prints
  • Take 2 yoga classes
  • Start Year 6 scrapbook
  • Host Halloween Party
  • Throw M a 1st Birthday party!!
  • Make 2 cookbook recipes
  • Get the pups groomed
  • Read 3 books each month
  • Drink 2 glasses of water per day

That seems like a good start.

Per usual, many of these things are going to happen with or without making the list… but it’ll feel good to cross them off 😉

What are your plans for the next few months?
