Whoopsies- so much for M W F this week… I had yesterday off (hopefully you did, too!) so I’m a day late with this post!
I’m combining everything bookish today… Linking up with Steph and Jana but also using this survey format from Jamie and stealing the graph idea from Emma.
So hold on to your hats, folks…
Number Of Books You Read: 25
Number of Re-Reads: 0
Genre You Read The Most From: Fantasy
*Last year I read one book. I set a lofty goal for 2016 and didn’t meet it, but I’m very glad to have read 25 books.
1. Best Book You Read In 2016?
Cress [Marissa Meyer] & Orphan Train [Christina Baker Kline]
2. Book You Were Excited About & Thought You Were Going To Love More But Didn’t?
Harry Potter & the Curse Child [John Tiffany, Jack Thorne, JK Rowling]
3. Most surprising (in a good way or bad way) book you read?
Secret Daughter [Shilpi Somaya Gowda] – I didn’t think I’d like this book or connect with it, but it was really enjoyable and it has stuck with me.
4. Book You “Pushed” The Most People To Read?
Probably The Lunar Chronicles. Sorry guys, haha.
5. Best series you started/sequel/series ender of 2016?
You can probably guess…
6. Favorite new author you discovered in 2016?
Probably Marissa Meyer. I’m excited to start Winter and then get her new book, Heartless!
7. Best book from a genre you don’t typically read/was out of your comfort zone?
The Royal We [Heather Cock & Jessica Morgan] – I hardly ever read romance or books set in our decade.
8. Most action-packed/thrilling/un-put-down-able book of the year?
Orphan Train – Not necessary an action book, but I couldn’t put it down.
9. Book You Read In 2016 That You Are Likely To Re-Read Next Year?
None… Very rarely do I re-read books. Just the HP series & Alice in Wonderland.
10. Favorite cover of a book you read in 2016?
11. Most memorable character of 2016?
Tina Fey in Bossypants. Is it cheating to use a real person? Whatever; I love her.
12. Most beautifully written book read in 2016?
Peter Pan [J.M. Barrie] – I liked his occasional disregard for the 4th wall.
13. Most Thought-Provoking/ Life-Changing Book of 2016?
None of them really. Wench [Dolen Perkins Valdez] was the toughest/one that stuck with me most.
14. Book you can’t believe you waited UNTIL 2016 to finally read?
Bossypants. I’m ashamed that I still haven’t read the handful of comedian autobiographies that are on my TBR list.
15. Favorite Passage/Quote From A Book You Read In 2016?
I should keep a book journal where I jot this stuff down… but I don’t.
16. Shortest & Longest Book You Read In 2016?
The Queen’s Army at 18 pages & Cress with 560 pages.
17. Book That Shocked You The Most
I’d say Orphan Train was the one that kept surprising me and taking me down paths I didn’t expect.

Amory and Milo (Death Wear a Mask/Murder at the Brightwell [Ashley Weaver] )
19. Favorite Non-Romantic Relationship Of The Year
Carswell & Cinder (The Lunar Chronicles)
20. Favorite Book You Read in 2016 From An Author You’ve Read Previously
The Witches [Roald Dahl].
21. Best Book You Read In 2016 That You Read Based SOLELY On A Recommendation From Somebody Else/Peer Pressure:
Many of my picks come from other blogger recommendations. If y’all hadn’t suggested The Royal We I’d have never read it! (Thanks, guys!)
22. Newest fictional crush from a book you read in 2016?
Carswell. Or Wolf. Ha. (The Lunar Chronicles)
Reviews of my favorite books ( Cress and Orphan Train ) can be found here and here.
And here’s a list of all the books I read in 2016 with links to their reviews.
Let’s end with some graphs:
So there ya have it. Next year I think I’d like to tackle 40 books. That roughly 3 and one third books per month- seems manageable.
What are your reading goals for next year? What was your favorite book of 2016?

I need to get on the lunar chronicles and the royal we. It’s been awhile since I read bossypants but I liked it alright.
It takes me a while to get through a book- so be warned all of those are pretty thick books. Haha!
Once I started Lunar Chronicles I just couldn’t stop! I loved those books so much, and I can’t wait to read her next series! I’ve heard quite a few people say that they were disappointed by the newest Harry Potter which really bums me out! I still haven’t read it yet!
The new HP is just really different and quick and less descriptive. But I know that goes hand-in-hand with it being a play. Maybe you’ll love it!
I’ve yet to try the Lunar Chronicles. Hmmm…
I have always loved The Halloween Tree. I want to share it with my students but I feel like it will scare them. I remember watching the movie in 5th grade (at school).
The Halloween Tree was much spookier than I anticipated. I wish I’d have read it in October- I waited until Nov. and was out of the spooky mood by then. How old are your students? They might like it!
Oh, I like these questions. It requires a lot of thought over what you’ve read.
Even though I only read 25 I had to keep the list next to me so I knew what my options were. Ha.
I’m not familiar with The Halloween Tree, but I can see why you picked that cover!
It’s a little strange (which Bradbury might be known for…) but it was ok for a quick Halloween read!
I absolutely loved the Lunar Chronicles and The Royal We. The Royal We is one that I could read and re-read multiple times. I’m excited to read Heartless too!
I can’t wait to finish up Winter next month and then launch into Heartless!!
Secret Daughter was on my list! Love that book so much. I finally broke down and started Theunar Chronicles because I was hearing about them constantly! Not my usual style but they’re awesome.
I’m so happy someone else read it! I’m not sure how it came across my radar, but I’m really glad I read it. I’m glad you enjoyed/are enjoying The Lunar Chronicles!
I really enjoyed The Lunar Chronicles as well. I’m on the hold list for Heartless and can’t wait to read it. Marissa Meyer has definitely become a must-read for me. I was also surprised by how much I enjoyed the Royal We. Romance used to be one of my favorite genres but one I rarely read today. And I love your pick of Carswell and Cinder as your favorite non-romantic couple. I loved their relationship too! I love the cover to the Halloween Tree and now I really want to read the book!
I’m excited to read Heartless. Alice in Wonderland is my favorite book and I can’t wait to see what Meyer does with the characters!
The Halloween Tree reads a little poetically. It’s also kinda spooky. I recommend reading it right before Halloween for the best effect!
Cress ❤ so good! i read the orphan train a couple years ago and liked it, from what i remember.
i still haven't read the new harry potter book. eh.
Secret Daughter is on my list!
i am with you with pushing The Lunar Chronicles – SO GOOD. SERIOUSLY. THE BEST. I hope you love Winter. I am waiting on Heartless from the library. hurry up people! i totally have a crush on Wolf 🙂 hahaha.
i loved the royal we! i love that you don't normally read romance or things set now – i do haha but i loved it as well.
Orphan Train broke my heart and then mended it again. So good!
Defeinitely check out Secret Daughter. It’s not an action or romance or anything crazy, but it’s a really lovely story.
I was all about Wolf under Cress & Carswell happened. I just love him!
Bossypants… that is a good one. I did that one last year & loved it.
You’ve got me totally gearing up for the Chronicle series. I just need the whole series out!! I think there’s a good head start though with all the books out so I may go ahead & start them in 2017
I love that Tina Fey is so unapologetic for how badass she is, but at the same time she’s humble and hardworking and logical. I think we’d be great friends! Haha! (Although I wouldn’t call myself most of those things, haha!)
They’re out! The Lunar Chronicles are all released 🙂 Her new book Heartless isn’t a part of the series (and it’s the one that just released). So you’re safe! Start reading!!
I love this format! So many interesting stats! You’ve convinced me I really need to finish the Lunar Chronicles ASAP. I keep putting it off because I don’t want it to end! Haha. The Royal We was so good!
I loved some of the other formats I saw out there. I wish I’d have included a graph with male vs. female authors. I’m curious now. Haha!
Ooooh. You should finish the series 😉 Winter is large and daunting (to me) but I’m gonna tackle it this month!
Orphan Train has been on my TBR for what feels like forever and yet I keep reading books that have been on my TBR for less time! I need to get on it!
READ IT. I so, so, so loved that book. I hadn’t planned on reading it, but my grandma asked me if I wanted to borrow it before she gave it back to a friend. I’m SO glad she did!
I love the way you broke this down!
Bossypants was a great book! And for your goal next year, 3 books a month is totally doable!
Thanks, Jana! I’m feeling so motivated to finish some books this year. I just dusted my living room bookshelves and made note of all the ones that I own that I haven’t read yet!
Bossypants was a really funny book! Your goal of 40 books is a great manageable goal! My goal I think will be 26. It’s pretty funny that that goal seems so lofty when I used to read a TON of books but I’m trying to be more intentional with my time and money so I think it’s a good reasonable goal for my life right now.
In high school I read all the time, but college really killed it for me. K isn’t a reader so I don’t usually have time before bed to leave the light on and read, but this year I’m definitely going to work on tackling more book!
I have to continue the Lunar Chronicles series. I only read the first one but really liked it. Orphan Train was really good too! I rarely do rereads as well. There’s too many books that I want to read!
I liked all the books in The Lunar Chronicles, but Cinder was my least favorite. So what I’m saying is you should DEFINITELY keep going 😉
The Orphan Train! This has been on my list for a while. I need to read it in 2017 for sure.
I would recommend it to everyone. It was so sweet and heartbreaking but also lovely and resolving.
Aww The Witches is so good. I remember loving that book as a kid! Orphan Train is surprisingly not on my list, so I am adding it. I’ve seen it everywhere, but somehow never checked it out.
I wasn’t a Halloween-ish book in October so I went with The Witches. Plus, Dahl can do no wrong 🙂 I hope you love Orphan Train as much as I did!
I love these questions and I think I’m going to answer them too! I haven’t read The Lunar Chronicles but from what you have said about them I really want to. I love Peter Pan! I read it for the first time in college and I’ve re-read it a few times. There are so many books I want read so I don’t re-read books a lot, but some are worth reading again. And I love Tina Fey. She is the best.
I’m not sure what my favorite book of 2016 was. But I keep saying that the most important book I read was Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi
Do it! The blog I got them from had a lot more than what I skimmed it down to, so maybe check her space out, too! Alice in Wonderland is the book that I can read over and over, and quote, and love so deeply 🙂
hehe I love this. Oh Thorne. And Wolf… and yeah. All of it. Seems like a good reading year lady! Excited by how much you loved Peter Pan! 🙂 XO – Alexandra
Simply Alexandra: My Favorite Things
I’m definitely happy with the number 🙂 I’m so glad I finally read Peter Pan!!
I loved the Lunar Chronicles too. (And was similarly disappointed by Cursed Child!)
Twins! Haha! I’m excited to start the final Lunar book!!
