I don’t know how many of Erin’s challenges I’ve participated in, but they never get old 🙂 Here’s the link to her post. And here are my picks for this challenge!

Briefly, the rule are… books must be +200 pages, only one reread from your past, & no doubling up one book for two categories. It starts July 1 and ends October 31!

|20 points| Published in 2017: The Essence of Malice by Ashley Weaver
|20 points| A compass or cardinal direction in the title: West With the Night by Beryl Markham
|25 points| From this list of the most commonly banned books in America: The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood
|30 points| A fictional book about mental illness: The Virgin Suicides by Jeffrey Eugenides
|30 points| With a non-human main character: The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein

I have a few books I want to (start and) finish before this challenge starts. I’m actually on a roll right now so I hope that carries over into July!

    I’m kind of falling behind on my two yearly challenges, so I don’t think I’ll do this one but I love brainstorming lists and seeing what other people are reading. I think I read And Then There Were None in school, but it’s definitely on my list of books to reread at some point.

      A friend recommended the Christie book to me. I’m excited to start it! I think brainstorming the list is one of the best parts!

    Great choices! I love that you are reading both Circling the Sun and West with the Night. You will be a Beryl Markham expert. 🙂 I hope you like The Bear and the Nightingale. You know I loved it and I also love Racing in the Rain – It has such a great ending.

      I’m excited to take on them both in the same challenge! When I originally put them on my TBR list I knew I wanted to read them together!
      I usually avoid animal books because my soul just can’t handle it, but Racing in the Rain just has SO many good reviews!

    I thought the categories were really interesting this time! I really liked And Then There Were None when I read it for school in 8th grade! I’m also reading The Handmaid’s Tale, so we’ll have to compare notes. 🙂

    I’m kind of bummed by some of these categories, but there’s no way I’ll be able to finish this challenge anyhow, so it probably doesn’t matter haha!

      Hahahaha- maybe you can finish it!! Or at least half! (Or even one book, really!)
      Erin’s categories always make me read a little outside my *normal* zone. I kind of love that and kind of fear it. Hahaha!

      I’m a little scared to read an animal book (I usually avoid them), but I’ve heard too many good things about this one- including that the dog’s name is Enzo 😀

    Yay for Erin’s challenge! The Art of Racing in the Rain is one of my all-time favorites. I got to meet the author earlier this year and he signed my copy. I kept meaning to read Handmaid’s before I started watching the show, but didn’t get to it. I still want to read it someday. Everyone loves it!

      Those are two that I’m really excited about!! I actually put The Handmaid’s Tale on hold at the library in May because I’m pretty sure there are 100 people in front of my for it! Hopefully it becomes available just in time for July!

    I love seeing the books you pick for Erin’s challenge. I can’t finish a book challenge or any sort of challenge to save my life so I have vetoed them all together. I know you will finally get to finish all the books!

      Hahahaha- don’t let that discourage you! I still haven’t finished, but I’ve done better and better every year 🙂 I don’t know if this one will be the one I finish or not, but my family vacation is in July so I’m looking forward to some beach reading!!
