Happy Halloween Party Recap 🎃

Happy Halloween, ghouls & goblins!!
(Can we pause & freak out about the fact that it’s the END of October?)

In celebration of Halloween I’m sharing details from our annual party! It was pretty low key. We had about 25 guests and some yummy snack foods and drinks.

Our party didn’t have a theme this year so we saw lots of fun costumes!

The Bandit & Frog
The littlest SCUBA diver, her momma jellyfish, & daddy shark
HONDA employee (my dad impersonating my brother) & Ratatouille chef
My devilish sister-in-law and Stewart from Letterkenny
A whole bunch of characters

K and I decided we were going to be G.D. Americans- a spoof on the aggressive, harsh, unrelenting “American.” Truth be told… I didn’t have to buy a single part of my outfit. Mainly because I DO wear these clothes to concerts and stuff. LOL

Any time someone tried to talk politics or tell me something America-related I got in their face and asked if they thought they were a better American than me. Honestly, we probably could’ve topped it off with a certain red hat and confederate flag bandanas, but we couldn’t bring ourselves to spend money on that stuff.

I tried to determine if this costume was offensive before we chose it. We didn’t target a demographic & we are Americans poking fun at the extreme “Americans.” So we went with it. And if we’d have offended any right-wingers I was fully prepared to call them a snowflake 😏

On to the food…

Our last few guests trickled out (or went up to bed) around 1:30am, then K and I c.r.a.s.h.e.d. (And then Bristol had a lovely spell of diarrhea in our room around 4:45am SIGH.)

I say it every year, but the day after our Halloween party is one of my favorite days of the year. We lay around and don’t leave the house and watch NASCAR and relax. At times I wonder if I put myself through the party just to earn the day after.

We had trick-or-treaters Tuesday night & we’ve got another party on Saturday, then our Spooky Season is officially over. What fun things did you do this year?

The Last 366 Days in My 20s

I am 29 years old today. Until two days ago, I forgot my birthday was this week. I feel both retrospective and future focused.

This past year was very out of my control and that’s not something I handle well. We finally kicked off our parenthood journey. We felt a ton of professional and financial pressure. We grieved harder than we’ve ever grieved before. It was a weird year & I honestly don’t care to look back on it.

I feel like I’m walking into 29 as a complete and total wreck. My emotions & hormones are a mess. My house is a mess. My brain is a mess. For a type-a control freak, it’s actually quite terrifying.

But I also feel a sense of calmness in the chaos. Most things are out of my control right now and there’s a unique freedom in that.

The planner in me wants to list some goals but I already have my 30×30 list (which will definitely not get accomplished). If I had to list three vague, general goals for Year 29 they would be:

Figure out how to be a mom. Hopefully a good mom, sometimes a bad mom probably, but just a human MOM overall.

Wrap Enzo and Bristol in as much love and patience as I can manage. B is still adjusting to our home & both will feel the shift when baby arrives- so I just want them to always feel loved and wanted.

Keep up the incredible, understanding, same-team relationship with K that we’ve had for years. It’ll be weird to bring another human into our mix, but I love my life with Kyle and I don’t doubt I’ll love it even more when our mini arrives.

That’s it. Those are my goals for the next year. That’s where I’m dumping my energy and time and efforts. Yeah, I’ll have other goals like cleaning out the ________ or attend x amount of holiday festivities or train Bristol to not blah blah blah…. but those are the core initiatives for the next 366 days. (I get a bonus day w/ the leap year!)

Very little makes this day different from any other day in 2019, but it feels like a fresh page for me. Things from Year 28 will certainly shape how Year 29 goes, but I want to take on this new age with a new attitude. I won’t be a Pinterest mom or a dog whisperer or a marriage expert by 30, but I hope that I fully experience age 29 and all it has to offer while I’m here.

I also hope to read more books. That seems like the loftiest goal of all given the newborn. Haha.

Birthday Month Wishlist

Thank you for all the love this week. It’s meant so much ♥ I want things to just feel normal & they don’t yet. I’ll be fine, then think about how Ly’s stocking is packed away, ready to affect me come Christmas time. She used to go upstairs and nap every. single. time. I made coffee at home. I haven’t brought myself to make any yet because I hate that she’s not there to carry out her weird little habit. Weird stuff like that still lingers and makes me cry myself to sleep every stupid night.

I meant for this to be a happier post, though, so I’m going to move on. But I did want to sincerely thank everyone for their love. It’s been a comfort to us.

It’s my birthday month & the best month of the year!

My family likes to tease that once baby is here, nothing with be about me anymore. (You all ARE just teasing, right?) But… I still have a few weeks and fortunately my 29th birthday falls in that time.

Every year I do a wish list and every year I say (and mean) this: I don’t need a thing for my birthday. I wrote this post before we lost Lylee so I would take her over every single gift ever but I know that’s not possible and wishing for it makes me imagine a Monkey’s Paw situation which is icky.

Ok… now moving on 😬

Entertainment:

Harry Potter & the Goblet of Fire Illustrated Copy. It’s finally (coming) out! I’m so excited to get my hands on this gorgeous book!!

Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy. I don’t play a ton of video games anymore, but I still love these.

Clothes:

I love clothes but I’m kind of between sizes 😉 lol

I Work Out to… tank. I’m thinking an XL would be great for postpartum yoga and barre workouts someday when I’m all cleared to go back to that stuff.

Home Items:

I always love a snarky doormat. This one or this one would fit in great at our house. Again, when I found these mats we had multiple dogs. We will again some day so I still love it.

Beetlejuice pillow. I very much love this and would probably leave it out for more than Halloween. Lol

Random Items:

A bag for my yoga mat. I haven’t had a fictional strap or bag for my mat in years. I know they’re inexpensive and easy enough to find, I just haven’t pulled the trigger.

New cooling racks. I have two wire cooling racks and the black nonstick coating is peeling off both of them. Not a great “sprinkle” to have on your cookies or cupcakes.

A sticker for my laptop. MacBook 13″

A case for my laptop. MacBook 13″

**For family: All the Amazon items can be found on my wish list, plus some other items

I love October and we’re trying very heard to mend and take care of our hearts this month. We have lots of baby prep to get done and Halloween is just around the corner. This will definitely be a month of change for all of us.

The Gender Reveal Party

Some of y’all were super interested in the gender reveal so here it is!

On Sunday we had our family and close friends over for a BBQ.

I’m a lover of themes and we tossed around quite a few, but K wanted to keep it simple. Plus, it was a last minute party & I didn’t have enough time for a true Harry Potter theme (my first choice) 😆 Also, I hate the color pink so I didn’t want a bunch of blue and pink things (although I gave in a little).

We decided on a colorful party with fox accents. I love foxes and we have a bunch of fox stuff- why reinvent the wheel?

We invited about 54 people. (I know that’s a lot but our immediate family is local and that was still leaving off quite a few people. Our wedding guest list was 300+ people… small town probs.) Approximately 32 people were able to come.

The weather started off great. Then we had a down pour. *sigh* We moved almost everything inside and crammed all our guests into the kitchen, dining area, and living room to eat. It was tight but our guests were great & didn’t complain.

Fortunately, when it was time to reveal the baby’s sex, we were able to move outside and take advantage of the sunshine halftime show. (Of course it was hot & humid AF but at least we could all move a little, lol.)

I wish I’d have snapped a picture of everyone on the porch watching us. So many phones out and smiles and excited loved ones.

Our back porched is elevated and about 3/4 the length of our house so they were on the stage while we stood down below.

We did a pour paint reveal (you can see the video on my IG since I can’t figure it out here). My plan is to do something artsy with the pink canvas- despite my dislike of pink. Lol

I’m very grateful for the our family and friends putting up with the rainy plan B. And for all the loaned chairs & serving dishes that we gathered up last week. And my wonderful husband for putting together so many major elements of the party. And my dad, brother, and bff Kayla coming over early to help us out ♥ Love you guys.

We’re in a family of rule breakers so a few people still brought gifts to spoil this little lady. I’m not sure how we got so lucky with these fantastic people, but this little girl is already surrounded by the most loving, generous community. Thanks, everyone!

Relationships Tag | TBB Asks

I’m not planning to do these every month, but I am tired today and my brain can’t handle much. Plus, I love gushing about my circle of people. So today, in honor of Valentine’s Day I guess, I’m linking up with The Blended Blog for some relationship-related questions.

1 | Who is your oldest friend? How did you meet?
I have a friends from church & elementary school that I still talk to occasionally, but I met my oldest best friend in 5th grade. I was visiting her elementary school and ended up at her table and she was SO loud. We still laugh about my first impression of her 😉

2 | Tell us about your circle of support. Who are your people?
Obviously K is my person. I have three best friends and a handful of very very close friends. K and I are very close with most of our family. My brother and siblings-in-law are also in my close circle.

3 | How did you meet your partner?
We were both band nerds. We met when I was 15 but we didn’t start dating until after my 17th birthday.

4 | How is Valentine’s Day celebrated in your home?
It’s not. The last few years we’ve been on a business trip over the 14th. We typically go to dinner but we don’t put much effort into V-Day.

5 | What is your love language?
I know they can change, but last I checked it was Quality Time. This gets tricky because we work together, but I don’t typically see time in the office as “quality.” I think K is somewhere between Acts of Service & Words of Affirmation.

6 | Flowers or chocolate?
Flowers for sure. But books are even better.

7 | What is the most meaningful gift you have ever been given?
Hmm. I’m not sure. My husband is incredible at getting personalized gifts for me. He once bought me a frame with original film clips from each HP movie. This past birthday he got me orchestra tickets to see HP and the PoA in concert. My best friend Erica gave us a custom Lylee ornament one year for Christmas and I love it with all my heart. Gifts based around HP or my dogs tend to warm my heart.

Feel free to answer all or some of these in the comments! I love hearing about how people met their s/o or how long you’ve been friends with your closest pals!
